Love Sampson as a motivator, leader of men, moral compass, and solid overall coach, but I'm concerned. We all know of the years of offensive deficiencies in the biggest moments, but I'm going to reiterate that our defense is just too susceptible to teams who can make the right pass. It's susceptible to quality shots and offensive rebounds especially when our bigs are out of position trapping. It's a hard defense to execute perfectly as any missed rotation or improper closeout will screw everything up. I think last year, we executed it almost to perfection, but this year, we're so often a step out of place. I'm not saying switch to zone or drop or whatever, but maybe be adaptable to mixing it up? Other defensive schemes can lead to misses too, and not have you so out of place where the guards are depended on for all the rebounds.
No doubt, this UH team is a work in progress. I think they can get better. I think that they can shore up deficiencies going forward. I like their chances in the South.
I think Michigan’s only game against a big 12 team this year was a 4 point win over TCU. A win is a win but there are much better teams than TCU in the big 12.
Arizona, Houston and IA State are all legit Final Four contenders. The Big 12 has 3 of the top 7 overall seeds in the tournament. Also...I've been hearing about how great the Big 10 was for so long now it's ridiculous. They have not won a national title since 2000!!! A quarter of a century. Over that span, their teams have generally underperformed, but their reputation is something else. They've put exactly one team, one season in the Final Four from 2021 on. They have more schools now, so you'd think they'd start to close that gap just based off numbers alone....hell, UCLA could make some noise (you know, Big 10 stalwart, UCLA lol)...but I promise you Michigan and Purdue both have shittier records if they're forced to play a Big 12 schedule.
UH couldn't have asked for a better draw. Handle business in the first weekend and then have the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 at Toyota Center? (They played Florida State there earlier in the season and shot the ball very well -- nearly 50% from the field, 11 made 3's, 82 points). The Coogs really have to start capitalizing on this favorable scheduling though. 2022: Spanked in San Antonio by Villanova 2025: Gave away a National Championship in San Antonio to Florida
Agree 100% with 2025 Villanova beat us by like 4 points and the Coogs shot abysmally. They weren’t spanked. They gave that one away too. Plus the Coogs were flush with key injuries, so much so that freshman Ramon Walker was starting. That didn’t happen again until his senior night, this year.
being way too tough on those past teams imo the nova game was close, just didnt have the shooting to win it. that was the year tramon mark and marcus sasser went down, im pretty sure. from what i remember, that nova team went perfect from the line and that was the difference. that nova ended up being the greatest free throw shooting team of all time percentage wise or close to it. florida was a beast of a team. we had our chances just came up short. it is what it is. also lets not forger they pulled that duke game right out of their asses. to me the only real **** up under sampson was that michigan game. that was giving it away.
**** michigan! the sharp 3 doesnt haunt me anymore, but memories of devin davis at the free throw line keep me up at night to this day
And Sampson not guarding the inbound pass. That was 100% stoopid. Honestly, I don’t want the ball in Sharp’s hands in that situation. He’s not clutch.
I'm going to enjoy the ride, but this team is going to look SO different next season. Maybe Tugler, Harwell, McCarty and Miller stay as starters/key contributors. But most others will be new. Sampson may have to live in the portal more than ever before. With that being said, who are yalls Top 5 transfer portal guys for UH? 1. Quentin Grimes - made it acceptable for 5-star players to go to Houston (and win). Becoming a solid NBA player has helped, too! 2. LJ Cryer 3. Milos Uzan 4. Dejon Jarreau 5. Kyler Edwards Honorable Mentions: Mylik Wilson, Taze Moore, Josh Carlton
The Coogs first tournament game is on truT! What in the world is that? Idaho is riding a five-game winning streak.
oh damn tramon mark won it for them good for him getting more money but damn he's been around forever byu and aj is going to feast against that texas
Last year's championship loss is a "ten year hurt," similar to the 2019 Astros. To win takes some luck and some breaks, the Coogs are sooooo overdue for some bracket magic.
This is Mark's 6th season. While he isn't a star, the Coogs could use a guy or like that too.... older..... hopefully they get one inside and one outside in the portal. Maybe troll the BYU transfer wire.
