Diehard fandom can be accompanied with casual understanding. Plenty of that here.

This is somewhat true, but not everyone understands chemistry, the game, and pays attention to those things - some people just want to watch the game without a care in the world......and that is fine too.

They were thriving last year. I really do think that the KD trade hurt the team's culture that was established when Udoka came with FVV and Brooks. The bad body language we see on full display this year has been telling.

Your strongest offensive player must be able to get the ball, and not turn it over.

    Reed better be ready.

Amen was at 80% from the line for most of the season which is a huge indicator of shooting following down the road.

    So its Amen easily.

Damn media stirring the pot! I don't think it is yet time to make an Amen/Sengun or An Reed/Sengun type of decision, but I could see that happening 1-2 offseasons away (not this offseason). Amen or Sengun could develop a jump shot. Reed could get stronger and become an average point of attack defender to go with his elite Stocks and then the whole discussion is moot.

The 1-2 years away decision timeframe will come down to the timing of Reed's and/or Amen's extensions combined with the overall roster at that point. If Amen and Reed end up with extensions in the 20% of cap space range like Sengun, then a move will be wise if improvements haven't happened.... Individually all 3 might be worth the cost, but together they will become a bad fit without improvements. The Rockets would have 3 fringe all-stars but no superstar. The Rockets should be able to find trade partners for any of the 3 and be able to choose a direction on the roster in a post KD era.

Jalen was picked because of potential
    Reed because of need/fit

Reed because of desperation, they had a season where outside of Eric Gordon the shooting was not good.

    A stigma of this franchise.

Someone gotta go and its 100% Sengun. Build around Amen, acquire a stretch big to open the floor. Amens low key having a solid year averaging 17pts with no 3pt shot. Imagine him having another offseason to work on his game

They were better last year because Amen wasn't playing out of position and FVV was a competent point guard.

Now Amen plays out of position and there is no competent point guard.

If I had to pick one that eventually shoots league average it would be Sengun, he's much closer to the target already.

But being honest, I doubt either of them ever reach league average.

Just look at Sengun. His body language has been awful this year. They started off the season really well, but I think the chemistry detoriorated the more they got to know KD, and then there was the burner gate fiasco. I miss "I'm so happy" Sengun.

I'll say the only positive outcome from this season is that we can stop deluding ourselves thinking that one of young core is on the verge of breaking out into a young star. Despite the challenges this year, someone from that group was supposed to elevate the team if they are of superstar caliber.

I don't really think KD is a problem, especially with Sengun - they look for each other and run a good two man game.

The real issue is two guys that can't shoot, a center who can't shoot outside isn't really a liability, a point guard (or wing) who can't shoot, that's a liability.
Amen is the root cause of teams double teaming Sengun as much as they do, last stat I read was 77% of post ups which was the highest in the league.
That has to take a toll on a guy's efficiency and very few on this site mention. They have it in their heads that Sengun is the problem and Amen is a budding superstar.

Amen wrecks the offense in more ways than one .... he gets first crack at a rim run. If it's not there he's looking to give it to someone else and assume the dunkers spot. That's taking up time out of a large percentage of possessions - they are finally getting into their offensive set with about 14 seconds on the clock.
They try to hide him in the corner, his defender is literally standing in the paint.
They run a pick and roll, both defenders drop with the roller one between him and the rim, the other between him and the ball.

Based on what? Amen has his free throw percentage up to 76.5%, an 8.1% increase over his first 2 identical seasons. That's not nothing. I've noticed you rarely, if ever, see players with a decent free throw percentage lack any type of outside shot. The potential is there.

Westbrook went from shooting 80%+ for the first 7 years of his career before collapsing. I swear he's just an anomaly.
