Ask a TRUE Buddhist Ownership of certain things allows you to pass them on. When there is no incentive left to pass them on, then there is no need for ownership. But society is nowhere close to that.
These people already are your neighbors - they are just renting and not purchasing. Home ownership should be very prevalent in the USA. People need to feel invested in this country. Also, the complaints you are voicing are voiced by every generation.
The all too American Propaganda/Mythology/religion that poverty is a Moral Failing/Laziness/Undiscipline rather than looking at the built in system mechanisms that work against people. The System is suppose to work FOR THE PEOPLE . .. . NOT AGAINST THEM Rocket River
Not owning media was a topic at a dinner I was at the other night. I personally ripped all of my CDs to MP3 and gave them away years ago, something I regret. I still have all of my old DVDs, though. I don’t mind it too much as I get tired of old music and like to explore new genres and artists. On the home ownership front, I’m not sure if private equity gobbling up homes will last. Plebs are becoming aware of this and their vote still counts. Of course, it’s all moot if our vote becomes symbolic like in Russia, etc.
Step 1: break collective ownership and bargaining. Step 2: break the family unit which acts as an insurance policy. Step 3: now that everyone thinks mostly for themselves and have no support, have your way with the weakest 90%. Step 4: create a competition where individuals will be at each other's throats to have the privilege of renting things for themselves. We're so far from home.
