He literally almost the exact roster they just added fred and dillion minus eg, wall, vic, wood, kpj and etc. Let's not forget silas had harden.
I do think finding a coach to replace Ime is a problem, but I think it's worth the chance. Otherwise, we are just going to waste another year of development of our young core. Just bringing back FVV and Adams and spending another season chasing seeding with no chance in the playoffs is unacceptable. It would be insane to bring on a coach that is philosophically aligned with Ime. I don't know who it is, but there are a lot of assistants that may be an improvement than just the re-tread coaches mentioned. Mazulla was an assistant. It doesn't have to be one or the other. The roster needs to be overhauled and the coaching, in my opinion.
1. I generally agree that Ime is a way better coach than he's given credit for by a lot of folks on this board. Excellent at setting and enforcing standards, establishing the right culture, holding guys accountable, keeping an even keel. This is the first year we haven't shown significant progress since he's been here, so there's a lot of disappointment. 2. In particular, he has strong rapport with the players. You can see tons of in-game coaching of individual players, and they seem to be interested and really listening to him. The respect level and attention level are high. Way better than a lot of other teams show with their coaches. 3. It's been reported that he's a significant asset in recruiting players. Dunno if that's true, but it matters. 4. Every coach has his deficiencies. We saw that with D'Antoni, who in some ways was the opposite of Ime. He needed an assistant to do the defensive work D'Antoni couldn't do. In Ime's case, it's obvious that he's deficient at offensive design and really bad at choosing (or getting his guys to run) a decent play coming out of a timeout. These aren't the whole job, but they're parts of the job. And Stone probably needs to have a conversation with him about delegating more of the stuff he's bad at.
Yeah but Mchale had no credentials. These people want Jenkins who has playoff experience and Malone who won a championship. I find it odd they want these guys despite the fact Jenkins underachieved in Memphis and Malone’s style lost his locker room. But since Ime took a team to the finals and they disrespect him, i question if they would for these 2.
Ime is very good at giving angry stares, clapping, saying "play harder", and throwing his players under the bus. He's comically bad at everything else. If he was coaching an AAU team, he'd be really good. Anything beyond that and he's out of his depth.
Again mazulla couldn’t win a championship without Porzingis and jrue. He got bounced from a lower heat team the year he took over. Real question. Do you think Udoka would win a championship without those 2 in 23-24?
When they run a semblance of motion, as you described above, it does look better but it seems about 75% of possessions I’m watching KD get double teamed for a turnover or tough shot or Sengun pounding it trying to get down into the paint and waiting for the defense to react. I want to see player movement and passing - as KD says, for them to play the right way. The roster in general has flaws, all teams have flaws, but you have the whole season to mitigate those flaws despite injuries… all the other teams have improved in that area, why haven’t we? If anything it feels like we have digressed. Obviously making shots makes everything look better, but even then they are frustrating to watch. When I see the ball move through four or five smart passes in a possession that’s when we look our best. That’s the “right way to play”. I’ll admit after the Spurs and Nuggets game has me frustrated so maybe I’m looking at everything through irritated colored lenses. Either way, your coaching staff and GM are the cornerstone of your team. If they really feel like this season is a loss, play the young players 35 minutes a game for growth and get them playing well together, play KD 25 minutes or so and chalk it up to an experience year until your golden boys come back from injury and we make a few trades in the summer.
I don't know if any of those coaches would make any difference. But I definitely want to see what a better offensive coach can do with this group. It is debatable whether the offensive struggle is due to Stone or Udoka. Some people blame Stone for not constructing the team correctly. Some blame Udoka for not being able to utilize the players correctly. Most likely we will never find out for I don't see either of them get booted any time soon. One thing is quite clear. Udoka prioritizes defense over offense. Without having another coach to get his hand on this roster, all we can do is speculate. And this is everyone's mantra: "If all we have are opinions, let go with mine."
OP is the last man standing who's content with a "good" coach for a roster that finished with a great regular season record then got bounced by a 7th seed and then added KD.
You guys are also forgetting silas wanted harden to play off ball.. and wanted wall to have the ball... Don't forget he bench alp and etc. Let's be grateful. But I do miss those cringe silas post games after an L lol
this is a really well-reasoned take. Can’t really disagree with anything you said. Curious if u would stay the course with respect to the current roster. If we are sticking with Ime what do u think we need to do to improve, beyond better assistant coaching?
The amount of chimp brains who consistently follow mob mentality and group think blaming one coach is very telling about this fanbase
Head coaching credentials. What head coaching credentials did he have? Did he take a team to the finals before coming to Houston?
