Amen is currently a better player than Sengun. Sengun is not offering shooting, is scoring inefficiently, and it is difficult to have a rim-protecting center in there with him. Just hard to have players that can't shoot. Just hard to have players that are sub par defenders for thier position. Sengun is both. Amen is only 1. Amen likely can do a lot of Sengun does on offense if Sengun wasn't in the game. My preference is to have a ton of shooters, a ton of defenders, a couple of stars handling playmaking, and one rim protector. Neither Amen nor Sengun fit my preference, but Amen at least has defense. Most PGs suck at defense, such that having a POA defender like Amen is useful. For Sengun, at his current production, his abilities can be replaced at other positions. Not easily, but I just am doubtful he and Amen are a long term fit. It will likely be a step back in removing either.
Folks do realize if KD is not here, the best defenser on the other team, and two to the ball is going to Alp and Amen. If people think Ime's offense is bad now, imagine no bailout from a KD. We'd not only lose to the Nuggets and Spurs, we'll also be losing to the Raptors and Pels.
I'm fine with losing more games in the short term in exchange for improving the odds of winning a championship in the future.
That is presuming we don’t replace Durant with a better fit. It doesn’t have to be a superstar, just a gifted guard that can shoot 3’s and have some semblance of a drive and dish game to improve the offense. Of course, there’s still the problem of our bone-head coach.
it would be better to just unload him for expirings and a crap pick or two. Giannis just dooms us for 2 more years. It would be a huge mistake for us to add Frp's to a deal for Giannis. If were going to take back a multi-year contract it may as well be KAT for Durant straight up and move Sengun to another team for a decent guard and picks. All is mute, if Ime is still coach. We might as well sacrifice another year with Durant and Sengun to get him fired. Hang on to our picks unless it's for a youngish star.
If people want other players as #1 option, I don't have a problem with it, it's just crazy that the advocacy is removing the only reliable scorer/ spacer we have on the team. I get it, KD has value, but if summer talks, DFS might need to go first.
The spacing would be so bad. The Rockets house is not a luxury mansion by any means, but if we keep taking away players who can actually space and 3pt, we'll end up with a house with non working shower and toilet. I know some folks don't like Dickerson, while we lose to good teams, he's literally the floor of Rocket's offense against bad to mid teams. At this rate a two non-shooters problem turns into a four to five non-shooters problem. Glimpse of it last night, where no one was hitting
The fans that think "guy puts ball in basket good a lot thus hes a great player" are alarmingly high in number. Kevin Durant is basically taller skinnier Luka Doncic. A loser stat padder. I am in firm disagreement that he's our best player. This team would likely win more without him on it and FVV or Dillon back on it.
Imagine if we just had a Myles turner, Luke Kennard, Colby white instead of Al-P & Tari Eason & DFs We would probably be #1 in the league because we would have multiple shooters & playmakers. They are literally just standing around and 2-3 players on the court literally CANNOT SHOOT AT ALL TIMES! its literally KD, Reed & occasionally Jabari or maybe another role player vs. the opposing teams 5 players on offense EVERY GAME
Hindsight being 20/20, I wonder what we could have gotten for Jalen. Was there a team out there stupid enough to give us picks for him? I miss the Dillon Brooks/FVV Rockets.
We've seen times where KD is willing to take a backseat. But if Ime use KD as a crutch, because his other offense can't work, that's coaching issue not a KD issue. That's like my left kidney has cancer, and right kidney is working overtime, and people saying right kidney is not performing at optimum level, have the doctor take out the right kidney. Who do folks think is actually out there? Like the Jalen Greens of the world.
This roster and coaching staff has multiple issues. KD will be 38 next year. You cannot build around a 38 year old that spams 2 point shots in today's NBA. He is not only a bad fit for us, he is a bad fit in this iteration of the NBA. Durant does not spread the floor, he congests it. Would be worse this year without him? Probably. This team needs a re-set roster wise and coach-wise. It is going to take several years. The sooner we move on from Durant, FVV, and Ime the quicker the soft re-build can occur. We need a modern roster construction and mind-set.
I didn’t agree to it but that’s what management did and so to rebuild again at this juncture makes little sense. Their plan again is to win a championship
Well, if we're assuming that progress isn't always linear and that there is still room for guys like Sengun, Bari, Tari, Amen and Sheppard to grow, then we haven't done that. We only traded away Jalen. But if we trade away some of those young guys for proven stars, they're likely to be older and thus we have truly committed to a complete rebuild in two years or less. As we're currently constructed, we have multiple first round picks in 2027 and may be able to retool around our existing core of young players. I am concerned about the fit between some of our young guys though. Amen and Sengun make it hard to space the floor. Sengun and Sheppard make it hard to play defense. Sengun is the common denominator so he may be the odd man out.
KD might be ranked the best player because some of our other 'cores' have not stepped up. I don't consider that as team is building around KD. The FO is very well aware of KD's age. And I disagree with the KD is not a spacer, when guys like a Castle hug him all game long. In crunch time, teams have no qualm doubling KD, because they feel free to sag off of you know who. I don't point it out often, because a it's a bit obvious, and I just don't want to get into a player vs player war. But we all know who the non spacers are. And if folks are avid fans of those players, you'd want spacers around them. A superstar can maybe give you a good 8/10 games. If you guys feel KD can somehow be flipped for two spacers who is consistent 6/10 games, ok maybe? But in the end, what is this team trying to be? Dyson Daniel and Thybulle, super defensive guys are useful but are they really your cornerstone. And if Alp can't get past the Sabonis archetype, then yes his hierarchy on the team should be challenged.
