Senguin was -28 for the whole game, so it’s not so much an issue pairing Sheppard and Senguin together… it’s just Senguin in general
Just watched Locked on Rockets with the Ime interview about Reed. Mentioned Fred 3X in the first sentence. Reed ain't ever starting. We need the coach benched next season and FVV off this team. More of the same BS about it matters who finishes but only if other players are hurt. Who needs a starting five that is used to playing together with a ballhandler that can actually run an NBA system that involves plays, movement, scheme, vision, continuity? This team needs a real coach.
Ime’s already given Reed the Ginobli comp. Ginobli was a 6th man for the first few years but only started 3-4 seasons out of his career. Way different quality team though.
Reed +11 on an absolutely terrible game from him only confirms that the Rockets are a better team when he’s on the court saw this comment on reddit; wondering if people agree or not
Yes, he has things to work on with the dribble, so does Amen....our two primaries are inconsistent there. However, Reed has the best Assist to Turnover ratio - and we are just better with him and his mistakes playing. He is better for us NOW, and will only get better.... Got to learn from making mistakes, and it doesnt' hurt that he actually makes us win while doing it. 8 and 2 as a starter . DD
He plays aggressive with the starters I’ve noticed, his bal handling is less of an issue. Plays more confident
Pretty much spot on, imo. Reed is definitely more of a combo guard being asked to play point, and that's a tough transition. Bringing the ball up under 70+ feet of pressure already expends a lot of energy, then he has to fend off / shield the ball from the defense while waiting for our glacially slow offensive sets to develop. At times it looks really rough, but... This is how you get better (in conjunction with off-season training). He has to get these on ball reps if he's going to maximize his potential, so I'd rather live through the growing pains than shy away from it by parking him in the corner.
The best bet for Reed Sheppard starting next season (for the Rockets) is if he goes nuclear the rest of the season and the Rockets roll out a backcourt of FVV and Sheppard with Amen at the 3. It is a small line up but FVV and Amen are both very capable defenders. Also, FVV can actually run when he is encouraged to. The success would largely rest on Sheppard and FVV shooting well enough to cover Amen and Amen and FVV defending well enough to make up for size issues caused by Reed. A lot of criticism for Sheppard - but he has been pretty good the last month plus after going through an equally long period of being mediocre. The last month has seen Sheppard post 17.5 pts 4 rebounds and nearly 5 assists a game with a TS north of .600% and a shooting line of 45/42/90 and over a steal and a block a game. The only thing that he hasn't done great at is protecting the ball, but he still has almost a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio during this period. For the season he is up to 14/3/3 and is shooting 44/40/80 with over a steal a game and a block a game. At this point he is not a star or superstar - but he is a very good rotational player on a team, and he is only in his second year and is 21 years old. If he gets 30 minutes or more a night next season, he has a good chance to average 20 or more points with a TS of .600% or higher and a high number of blocks and steals, and if he improves his handle - those numbers could creep up even higher. Overall - objectively speaking, I think almost everyone has to be satisfied with his second season, especially coming off a terrible rookie year. I would put him marginally behind Castle because of defense - and I would say Donovan Clingon ..... but they are all grouped really tightly together, and it is wide open as far as who will be the best.
Reed's production this season resembles Payton Pritchard's last year, who won the 6MOY award. The fact that Reed is doing this at age 21 is pretty impressive and he has much more room to grow. He's clearly getting better and more confident as the season goes on.
I avoid Reddit as much as possible… “hot takes” like this are why but he is improving in those areas… so I’m not sure why one or two games in his first full year of playing is so surprising to people.
“That what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” My primary complaint is Ime continues to emphasize Shep’s weaknesses, which is fine, but he fails to exploit the opponent. For example, HS level **** like how to break traps and pressure.
I think they will work well as a trio. Even if trio doesn't work, I expect all the paired matchups to work. Well this assumes FVV is healthy.
Yeah, there's a scenario that both FVV and Reed start. It should at least be experimented for a stretch and see what happens.
Good lord, let FVV move on - he shouldn't start another game for the Rockets a too slow guy who is already going to be slower. DD
