George Orwell was a staunch democratic socialist. He advocated for social equality, economic justice, and individual freedom. This is a critique of specific wealthy intellectual behaviors rather than a rejection of academia or left-wing politics which he supported. Remember, the intellectuals during his time were mostly multi-generational wealthy and were out of touch with the needs of the common man. There is a difference between and intellectual and someone with a high IQ.
