Ramadan War: From domestic Iranian Protests to US and Israel Bombing Iranians

The reason we got involves with Israel in the first place is that the Soviets sold weapons to Egypt.

Once that happened JFK started selling Hawk AA missile systems to Israel in 1962, and it took off from there.

The US was very much about not chosing one side or the other prior to that. Every decision the US made on Israel in the 1950s was about staying a neutral 3rd Party.

In the late 1940s, a bunch of Americans were arrested and tried for, among other things, selling war surplus bombers to Israel (b-29's I think?).

In the 50's/60's, once the Soviets got involved, the US reflexively without much real thought chose to support the other side anywhere in the world. We kind of stumbled or were pushed into our initial military support for Isreal.

 

I don’t know what the off-ramp is, but there needs to be one. This war really sucks. It hasn’t solved anything and has already created new, bigger threats. Iran may now pursue a nuclear bomb just to survive. It could also lift its self-imposed ballistic missile limit of about 2000 km, eventually reaching Europe and maybe even farther.

They’re already using the economy as a weapon, cutting off oil transiting through the Strait of Hormuz to pressure the world and the U.S.

If there’s no off-ramp, how does the U.S. handle this? Prolonged war with boots on the ground? It’s a mess that keeps getting worse.

 

Its pretty clear Donald, who doen't read or care what anybody else has learned from experience, thought he had "war" totally figured out and this was going to be Venezuela 2.0 and he was going to have a neatly wrapped up good little obedient client state in Iran by now, and he had not given a single thought about contengency planning.

That has never been the case. The partnership was based mostly on culture and political lobbying. Israel although not exactly the same has a closer culture than anything else in the region. Our alliances with the Arab states is mostly based on mutual economic interest but we have little in common with them otherwise.

I think trump thought he could do a few days of bombing, claim victory and then do a victory lap with his team. It seems Iran is locked in and wanting to have American boots on the ground, you can only hit so many targets from the sky. What's the next logical step? trump has the attention span of a 2-year-old and will quickly tire of this because they won't surrender (it appears)

Can you even picture him doing any type of physical labor? I bet he's never even taken out the trash, mowed the yard, or changed a tire, let alone done any type of maintenance or repaired anything that was broke.
