I rarely watch games live because I live in Europe. Usually I come here first before checking the box score. Whenever I see that the Alpi thread is way at the bottom I know that he had a good game.
So this is why Udoka started Adams all of those games, pissing us the f off. Not to expose Sengun's nonexistent rim protection.
Yea he scored 28 points, but we probably gave up 40 because of him. You're forgetting when he went out with 9 minutes to go that Portland was up. And then just coincidentally we clamped up (Portland didn't score for the next 7 minutes straight), + 16-0 run by us. We literally won the game because he got his 5th foul. Dude is a liability on defense, can't protect the rim whatsoever and they're literally hunting him..
Aaahh, there you guys are, took ya'll long enough. Don't worry, we'll give you a pass for missing last night entirely compared to the usual posting before the game is even over. It was a rough night for the movement lol.
Alpi had a very good game offensively, but a lot of truth in your post. Teams are attacking the rim when Sengun plays center.
Ain't no movement, we're all Rockets fans, I want him to be Kareem, it'll obviously make the team better. But I'm not gonna ignore the obvious just because I like him or not (that doesn't even matter), performance is what matters and he's not performing at all on that side of the ball/court.
Bit of an exaggeration by saying not at all, but I appreciate the actual Rockets fandom angle, more creative than usual. Kudos to you sir (or ma'am).
Are there still Alpy haters? He is good sometimes and bad sometimes and has been stagnant for 3 years with a couple of pity All Stars to his belt. He is a fringe Top 30 player in the league but plays a position that is of extreme importance defensively which we cant afford because there are two more important offensive players on the team right now that dont require the team to be constructed in a specific way to justify their existence. He isnt Jokic and the reality is that he needs to actually be as good or better than Jokic on offense due to how small he is relative to Jokic' more massive frame which is actually a rim deterrent. When he went to the bench last night it was a 1 pt game and then we pushed it out to 11 after that. It sucks but he probably is just Sabonis with more moxie on offense and worse rebounding. Bottom line with him is he cant shoot. And he hasnt made any progress whatsoever on this front. He takes up too much space, is too small and too bad on defense to justify his existence much longer. Im cool with giving him another offseason to improve his shooting but wouldn't lose any sleep over trading him for someone that fits our other players better.
Nope, said it multiple times I don’t hate him and he’s the only reason I got NBA League Pass. I used to do with same for Hedo, Okur, even Ilyasova. I just call it like I see it and last night’s game did nothing to change my opinion. I will praise him when he gets into better shape, puts more effort into developing his shooting (not just with his Serbian shooting coach), puts more effort into rebounding (not just boxing out but going after balls, jumping in traffic), and gives consistent effort on defense. Last night he had some hellaciously stupid offensive fouls and his pick and roll defense resulted in several alleyoop dunks. You either get up on the dribbler and make it hard to make that pass or show and quickly get back to the roller. He did neither, hung out in no man’s land, and got abused.
hard to know whether there are actually any haters . . . but there certainly are Sengunatics still out there at least a couple
I just want him to get back to how he looked coming into the season. He genuinely did look like he was going to make a massive leap into stardom and he's just fallen completely apart. He really is coming off kinda diva-ish, and he's making it hard to be a fan, which is nuts because in the beginning of the rebuild he was the easiest to root for by far.
Being pragmatic and realistic about a player in his 5th season isnt being a hater. I was ecstatic when they traded for him and had high hopes for his progress. There is no more progress. Eventually you have to cut bait. This isnt a charity. Amen and Jabari are next but Amen is a DPOY candidate just by existing so it doesnt matter as much with him. Jabari can always be a role player even in a reserve/bench role. As currently constructed, Alpy is at best the best player on a play-in/bottom seed team. You'd have to build an entire team around him to maximize his skillset and unlike Jokic, he isnt worth that hassle. He is probably out of time.
Woah, really? At 23? You're not going to wait for his prime starting at 27? How about at least just 25 to start making such claims? Glad you brought Joker up, this is a good discussion. Basically, you would have given up on him too. Here are his first 5 year stats. Notice the dip from season 4 to season 5 by the way. Jokic 2019–20 19.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, 7.0 assists (24 years old) 2018–19 20.1 points,10.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists (23 years old) 2017–18 18.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, 6.1 assists (22 years old) 2016–17 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists (21 years old) 2015–16 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists (20 years old) I bet if I told you those were Sengun's stats you would have barely noticed the difference. As a matter of fact, let's compare. Sengun 2025-26 20.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists (23 years old) 2024-25 19.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists (22 years old) 2023-24 21.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists (21 years old) 2022-23 14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists (20 years old) 2021-22 9.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists (19 years old) However, let's look at Jokic in his next season at 25 years of age. Mind you, it is around this point Jokic finally became more efficient and started hitting a larger number of shots, increasing his FG% and his 3PT% by alot. Jokic 2020–21 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 8.3 assists (25 years old) Do you see the actual jump? But wait. He has yet to hit his prime. Let's see the next few seasons. Notice he is still improving and having even bigger numbers the closer he gets to... wait... gasp!...30 years old! I know, improvements past your rookie contract years, an absolutely shocking concept. Jokic 2025–26 28.8 points,12.5 rebounds, 10.3 assists (30 years old, just turned 31 in February mind you) 2024–25 29.6 points,12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists (29 years old) 2023–24 26.4 points,12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists (28 years old) 2022–23 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 9.8 assists (27 years old) 2021–22 27.1 point ,13.8 rebounds, 7.9 assists (26 years old) Do you see the career trajectory? Did it stop at 23 years of age, or did it get better season by season. Remember the whole "centers take longer to develop" adage? The fact you guys don't believe in Sengun is fine. You guys think he will just be Sabonis and want Sengun traded, meanwhile taking every opportunity to disparage good performances while reveling in the bad games, acting like young guys are not inconsistent. The truth is Sengun is a 2x all-star, 2nd best player in our team behind HOF and GOAT player KD, putting up better numbers than Amen (whom I absolutely like as a player) even though his athleticism will never match his, or his elite defensive ability. It's fine if you think Sengun will never be as good as Jokic (or Kareem for that matter, since you mentioned him earlier). It's unlikely he will be a GOAT like him, 3x MVP, NBA champion, yadda yadda yadda. But to say he is a finished product and can't be much better than he currently is? That's absolutely hating of the highest caliber, usually by the people still butthurt about Jalen being traded and that even in Phoenix he is sucking balls. They bet their emotional fandom house on the flashy caliber player with no fundamentals, then proceeded to lose their minds like a scorned ex-girlfriend and concentrated all their rage on Sengun, claiming who for some low bball IQ reason that he was the one that held Jalen back lol. Get it together haters, you are irrational and exaggerating all the flaws while refusing to acknowledge all the amazing things Sengun does. It's fine if you don't want to give credit where it's due, and maybe, in a few years you might be proven right that he was just the next Sabonis. But in the meantime, ya'll can't get out of your feelings for a few years and support a homegrown Rockets product and hope he gets better, if nothing else for the sake of the team you claim to be fans off? Not even a little?
