Texans Trade Tytus Howard to the Browns

Amazing how many are acting as if Howard is a stud they traded away. I understood the Laremy screaming, but Howard. I'm surprised they got a 5th for him

 

I know what you mean, but everyone has known the Texans' plan to improve the O-line for 2 years now. It wasn't a secret.

 

But can the Texans replace Tytus with something adequate?

My initial reaction is the O-Line was already bad, and you're trading away one of the few serviceable guys you had?

I just hope the plans to build the O-Line involve signing and trading for established guys. I like Nick overall, but he sucks donkey at drafting linemen.

 

Why not let him walk and get a comp pick next year?

 

Tytus Howard is just another guy but Caserio hasn’t proven he can even find those guys consistently

 

That wouldn't be until 2028 IIRC + formula depends on how many free agents you sign = can be a crap shoot

But I also feel value was too low

 

After Ed Ingram, Tytus was our 2nd highest-graded OL. I hope Caserio gets it right but thus far his attempts to build an OL have been a disaster.

 

Looks like Nick is going to swing for a RB, OL overhaul this offseason. I love it.

 

They really don't seem to value the OL.

 

It speaks volumes as to the state of the line (and those entrusted to have built such units) when middling Howard is still one of the better draft picks and current members in franchise history.

One of these days the Texans will prioritize it to its full extent, and work backwards on the offensive personnel. Show me where that strategy has ever failed (getting the line in order first).

 

Texans should hire an Offensive Line GM. Revolutionize the front offices around the league.

 

I never could figure out if Howard was any good or not. Sometimes he looked okay, and other times he looked awful. I can’t get upset about losing a guy who was part of a terrible offensive line and was getting paid some pretty big money. I just wish we could get someone who we know is going to be an above average offensive lineman. I have no problem with the Texans shifting resources to the offensive line even if it weakens other positions, just as long as I know it’s going to pay off.

 

I have NO confidence that Caserio knows what he is doing.

 

I don’t either - but Popovich may be the bigger key here. He developed Ersery and salvaged Ingram from the scrap heap. And while the OL wasn’t *good*, it was fundamentally better than it was in ‘24. So they may have a coach who knows what he’s doing and knows what he wants. Caley also did a nice job scheming around the OL’s pass-blocking deficiencies.
