Considering that the majority in this thread are talking about Tex-Mex restaurants which isn't real mexican food, I'm pretty sure Xochi does not count in this thread. So for whoever brought up the other Hugo Ortega restaurants, the discussion is about Tex Mex restaurants, not Mexican restaurants.

The last high end Mexican place I went to was Panchos buffett. Went for the nostalgia and left disappointed. Felt weird having to raise the flag every time I needed something. ]

I'm so mad at you. This thread is about Tex-Mex not crappy Mexican food like Panchos. I can't believe you don't know the difference and quite frankly, how dare you?

There are about 12 distinct culinary regions in Mexico.

Then you get into TexMex...New Mexico Mex...AZ Mex...Cali Mex...

It's all our regional take on Mexican food, and you either like it or not. I'm not a huge fan of AZ mexican at all, but I know others like it.

Indiana Mexican food is amazing with the ranch and tomato paste mixed together.

Just learned Hugo has a newish restaurant downtown. Pacific Mexican seafood, made TX Monthly's top-10 new restaurants along with 3 other places in Houston (Agnes & Sherman, Di An Pho, Latuli). I would eat everything on their menu, especially the oysters with ponzu and signature fish dish:
