    The SF Bay Area has been a hot spot for ice sports since the 1990s.
    • Mountain View’s Brian Boitano had won a figure skating gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics.
    • Fremont’s Kristi Yamaguchi was on her way to figure skating gold in the 1992 Winter Olympics.
    • 2026 Olympic champ Alyssa Liu trains in the Oakland Ice Center, located just north of downtown Oakland, locals refer to the neighborhood as the Uptown Retail and Entertainment Area
