I'm heading off to Seoul later this week. Has anyone been there? I won't have much time to sight see as I will be spending a lot of time working, but I will be there close to 3 weeks. Any suggestions?
Yeah, I told my wife to go running, screaming and waving her arms towards the border. I thought it would make a good picture. Actually, I think one of the army bases runs a "tourist" bus out to the DMZ. I plan on checking it out if I have the time.
Sorry, no personal stories, but I have been considering a trip there (to work) and so I have some links: http://www.a-zoftourism.com/atozof-Important+Information-in-Seoul.htm (mainly tourism info - some useful stuff too) http://www.seoulsearching.com/ (Lots of Info) http://joongangdaily.joins.com/ (English Newspaper) http://english.tour2korea.com/12Home/Notice_Read.asp?oid=842&iPageToGo=1 (autumn foliage! go to the homepage too english.tour2korea.com) http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/print/ks.html (always useful) There are more out there, but figured I'd drop off the links I had just been taking a peek at. Start a thread when you get back! I'm interested in hearing about experiences in Seoul.
Meet new and interesting people.. and then get sprayed by Police. link to video My in-laws told me that when you see stuff like this on the news it doesn't give a true sense of police in South Korea are really like. He said that they are EXTREMELY POLITE to the point of being apologetic if they are giving you a ticket or arrest you. "I'm really sorry but I have to give you a citation now, sir. I don't want to do this but it is my duty. Again very sorry, sir." Can you imagine if that happened when you got pulled over here.
I've been there (not with the tourist bus, but I went there to visit a friend who was serving in the army). It is actually interesting to go there. About Seoul, it is a really vibrant city, they have Internet cafes at every corner. Go eat Bul-Go-Gi, it is very good. Also, for shopping, the Lotte used to be good. If you like to gamble, you can do so in the Sheraton Walker Hill. Maybe you like Karaoke, there are about a million places to do that. If you go to Itaewon, maybe you want to avoid Hooker Hill, especially if your wife goes with yyou... Try to visit some ancient palace or something... A nice view of Seoul can be had from the top of the "Yuk-Sam building" (I don't know how to spell this). It means "63 building" (63 stories). I don't remember much more. Where will you stay? Greetings from Greece...have a nice trip!
jokes aside the DMZ is great to visit, i absolutely loved it, have some great pics of the old bridges they used to use to cross and one is blown up to poster size in my hall way looks sensational the tour down the tunnel are great, scary with a guard stationed down there just in case the markets are also worth a visit, as are the main temples and garden
