WILD CARD! yes! i kno im a little late but iv been out all day i just wanted to yell it out so i got online & decided to post
we've been very fortunate lately to find good closers after giving up guys like wagner and dotel (and dotel at least as a setup man was dominant, so-so as a closer though). lidge looks like he's going to be the closer for quite a good while for this astros franchise what a find, what a find.
Damn what a season this has been. I admit I doubted them. My days of ever doubting a Houston sports franchise before its written in stone are over. And yes when I'm an old man coaching my kids teams I will remember the 2004 astros season. Never give up hope on your home team never. Bring on them Braves! Its time to let Biggio and Bagwell get it done with the help of Beltran, Kent, Berkman, Clemens, Oswalt, Lidge and good ol Scrap iron.
No doubt. Biggio is in easily. Bagwell will be a question, though I think he makes it in at least 2nd ballot. Biggio has done it at 4 positions, been the ultimate team player, an incredible defender at 2 positions, came up with some career numbers when people said he should retire, and was an incredible leadoff hitter throughout his career. Not your prototypical one, but one of the best nonetheless. NL leader in leadoff HR's, near the top in doubles and HBP's...no question about it.
I don't know - Sandberg's trouble getting in doesn't bode well for Biggio. Consider - how many firstbaseman in NL history are better than Bagwell? I argue there are none. The numbers Bagwell put up are just insane. Earlier this week, he passed some fellow named Mickey Mantle in RBIs. I think Bagwell's closer in having the numbers than Biggio is. But then again - I think both should be first ballot locks.
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/hou/stats/hou_sortable_player_stats.jsp so lidge, 157 ks/94.2 innings = 1.666666667 * 9 = 15 did i do the formula correctly? if so, then that would give lidge the highest ks per nine innings on that list.
