If he was this generation's Chris Paul, he'd be the undisputed first pick in this draft (and the 2 drafts before Wemby too in all honesty.) I'd say it's pretty easy to figure out which of those comps is more believable in "the worst draft in years."
He definitely is this years "damn all of the advanced stats and my eyeballs tell me he's going to be great but he just doesn't look like what I want him to so idk"
He's 100% the person I want to draft, he fits our biggest need as far as I can see it. I just think anybody expecting a superstar from this kid is going to be very pissed off, and in all honesty, he deserves to be evaluated based on reality so people don't just **** all over him when he doesn't meet their ridiculous expectations. Chris Paul with a more lethal shot would be one of the greatest players in NBA history, and people think that's plausible in a "weak draft" that most of our current draftees would go number 1 in?
Yeah, it does a disservice to these guys to overhype them. My expectation if we draft Reed is that he will be a high-quality bench player for us who might be able to back up both guard positions. Anything more is just a bonus out of a draft class this bad.
Chris Paul got picked after Andrew Bogut and Marvin Williams (and Deron Williams). And Stephen Curry got picked after Hasheem Thabeet and Jonny Flynn, among others. He had better advanced stats than either of them, but athleticism, height, eye test, blabla.
Yeah I see him as a super efficient scorer off the bench/spot minute starter. Has that profile, and despite what people say, that height WILL limit him as a scorer in the NBA. So basically, he'll have a similar impact as JJ Redick. Interesting how that causes rabid replies from idiots going off about "star players" like ****ing DiVincenzo
I think we are missing a PG so maybe Dillingham? But does it matter who we draft if we end up doing a poor job developing them? Would drafting Reed mean giving up on the Jalen project?
Good goalpost moving. You called Divincenzo, a 15 pt scorer with elite shooting and top level defense a scrub. Don’t change the narrative now. Sheppard is nothing like JJ, that’s who you compared him to. Mainly because he’s white and shoots the 3 ball good. Sheppards closest high end comp would be a bigger Conley or a slightly smaller Jrue Holiday. Low end is a Divincenzo. Who is far from a scrub. But I wouldn’t expect a Brit to understand the difference.
Can you give me an example of these two things helping out a player that much lately? Honestly asking since I can't think of it. If I had to guess there are plenty of dudes in the NBA who folks would find "handsome", but unless they're a star, it doesn't really help them in the "marketing" aspect. I mean did it help JJ Redick that much? lol Was Jimmer "handsome"? lol this Sheppeerd dude looks kinda similar. I don't know, just don't remember any examples of "white and handsome" being something that NBA team owners fight over
Watching everyone debate whether we should take Reed or not and I’m over here just thinking I hope we don’t get Bancheroed again
