Yes. He'd be the perfect utility guy that can give you starts at LF, CF, or 2B if need be. I'd imagine him starting at 2B next year to start the season off with Burke off the bench, with Burke taking over mid-season. We have Lane, Berkman and Beltran in the OF. For $2 million, he's a steal.
I think if given the choice Biggio will want to play Left Field. The wear and tear is so much less and i think he realizes it would be much more difficult to put up the kind of offensive numbers he has playing in the infield. I believe the contract is a little different, 3 million in base salary along with 1.5 in incentives. At least thats what was posted in a chronicle article not too far back.
The 2 million figure is used because although his base is 3, there is a buy out for 1. So for base salary it is an additional 2 they would have to pay.
Oh yes...Burke's major league at bats have been soooo impressive. The kid has looked absolutely lost out there. We simply cannot afford to have him in there everyday and have light hitting Brad Ausmus.
Can't afford to play him? So we should instead use Biggio, who's defensive skills at 2nd base was eroding terribly even before making the move to the outfield? Obviously, if Drayton's inclined to pony up the money, Kent is the best option. But I'm not sure he's willing to do so, especially if we're actually going to make a play for Beltran.
