Happy AAPI month!

AAPI Heritage Month is very important. Almost 10% of the US can claim AAPI heritage, and yet:


Most Americans can't name a famous Asian American, survey finds
A recent survey found 52% of people couldn't name a single famous Asian American. Nine percent named the actor Jackie Chan, who is not American.

 

I, some of my relatives and I suspect many other Asian males have been called “Jackie Chan.”

Which is better than 15 years ago I remember some people calling me Yao Ming while playing pickup ball. I told them I’m “5’-7, Yao is 7’-5”.

Pacific Islander
"A person with origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East (i.e. East and Southeast Asia), Indian subcontinent, or the Pacific Islands."
So a non-white Asian.

 

It’s a catchall for people who like to eat taro.
