Know what? **** the haters and if you’re a hater, **** you too.

Some of my earliest memories, I think from around two years old, are of the anticipation of seeing the beach as we came up to Seawall on 61st. I gave zero ****s about the color of the water. It is a beach, the best place in the world, and I was a little kid.

I kept going down on my own when I could drive to surf and hang out. I finally moved there in 1999 and lived there for 9 years. Met my wife there, my first son was born there. I met most of my closest friends there.

It’s a beach town with a Houston feel and laid back beach culture rolled into one. What’s not to love about that? I can kick back with a beer on a deck, look at the water and talk to the coolest people in the world about anything H-Town- sports, local food, weather, our idiot governor…whatever.

It rankles me when yankees (he’s an honorary yankee with that attitude) like Barkley, who was born on the gulf, poo-poo Galveston. **** you, we don’t want you, go back from whence you came. Enjoy your plastic women and sky-high real estate. I’ll be chilling on this deck enjoying the breeze and vibes with my loved ones, a beer, board shorts and a bucket hat.

I did, but mostly because it was the only beach I'd known.

Now I go to the beaches in New Jersey, and those are nice. Cape May is may favorite place to go beaching.

The worst beach I had ever been to was in the Florida pan handle. It was warm water, but there were these stupid noseeums that ate me alive.

We might have crossed paths. I used to surf off the seawall at 61st Street all the time. I loved going into Sunrise Surf Shop to shop boards, bathing suits, and pick up my blue surf wax. Then I'd head across the street for my favorite pastime. Did you go to the surfing flicks at the University of Houston too?

Wow, that’s cool. That wasn’t our main stop but we went there too. I’m sure we breathed the same air at some point.

We talked about going to UH to watch the movies but it was ultimately too far for some Alvin bumpkins to drive.

    Man, this guy GETS it.

I think the people who bag on Galveston are the people who never venture away from the Seawall. There's so much more to that island than just Pleasure Pier and The Spot.

We went to Gulf Shores, AL back in March, and yes, the sand was white and the water was blue. It was beautiful but it just didn't have that Galveston vibe that I love so much.

Yeah, it's not just about the beach. There are many things to do in Galveston. Maybe I am a nostalic person and it bring good memories. I am glad Galveston is closer to Houston. It is fun to drive from Houston to Galveston and from Galveston to Houston.

No ****? You probably jumped in on my wave once or twice, you jackass ;)

Surfside at the Octagon was more my style, though.

Charles Barkley loves to listen to Charles Barkley talk about Charles Barkley. Take it for what it's worth.

Entirely fair and very CF macro. I have spent a lot of time face down, drunk, on these types of things.

Galveston sucks imo, but a lot of it is because of how far the drive is. You sit through traffic, over an hour, and then your reward is some dirty ass water. If I lived within 30 mins from Galveston, I wouldn't mind it at all for what it is, a beach.
