Channeling @B-Bob Are neckties out of fashion? I wore a tie daily for almost all of the 2010s for work, but by 2019 I stopped and since the pandemic I rarely wear them. Same with everyone else around me. Even our US presidents are going tie-less.
I have hated wearing ties my whole life and I always thought they were stupid. When I was married, the missus insisted that I wear one to at least church but many guys at this church wouldn’t wear a tie. They are highly uncomfortable and only came to be because supposedly big fat Henry VIII spilled food on his shirt or something like that and the tie was invented to cover up his messiness - I guess they had to comply or he would have chopped their head off.
When people come to see me, I expect them to be in a tie. I rarely wear one unless I'm raising money, marrying, or burying.
I think ties are a thing of the 20th century, to stay dead and buried there. But... the CF ad algorithm showed me a photo of the Menendez brothers both wearing ties during their court case! Does that subvert my argument... or bolster it, given that the M brothers were products and combatants of the 20th century? Spoiler bros, you do not want to look like this. abandon your ties. do NOT... KNOT up for events.
No. It's simply trendy to not wear one. You can wear one and not look dated. Some items are timeless. Historically, recessions seem to resurrect ties and formal attire. So... give it 2 years. Good luck.
I wear one if I’m covering a hearing or going to a wedding. Otherwise, no, though I wear a suit a lot
Right? There's a time and a place. Any proper gentleman should have at least 6 or so ties to choose from for when the occasion arises.
Personally, I hate them for much the same reason I don’t like sleeping outside- I grew up on the gulf coast. I hate that neck chafing feeling from wearing a tie in the hot, sticky sweaty Houston weather. Might enjoy it in the cold but that’s not in my wheelhouse right now.
I love the Hill Country wedding/funeral/formal occasion dresswear: nice dark jeans, white button up shirt, clean brown boots, optional dark blue sportscoat (depending on the weather). There's a lot of black felt Stetsons involved, but I'm not a Stetson guy, so I just make it a point to comb my hair that day. I understand. A dress shirt with too tight a neck is the worst shirt in the entire world of shirts. Can still wear a tie, but that top button is unbuttoned underneath it.
I’m a shorts, tees, and flip flops kinda guy in season, which we haven’t got yet here. In winter, jeans, boots, a sweater and a parka. Rage on with them neckties!
