I'll simply restate my previous point and move on. I am criticizing Trump's statement that tariffs are being paid by China to the US. Everyone, Biden included, gets to call that out, whether or not one agrees with his tariff policies, even if it's exactly the same as Trump's.
that statement underscores the sheer willful ignorance of Trump it doesn't matter that the trust fund baby attended Wharton, particularly since it has been reported, by Trump's niece, that Trump had paid some one to take the SAT exam for him.
Do you understand how tariffs work? They are a charge not in the exporter but in the importer. Now the exporter can lower prices to make up for the tariff or reimburse the importer but the payment is made when the goods arrives into the country purchasing them not when it leaves the country manufacturing them.
I’m still against this though. I don’t think the trade war has worked out as well as either the previous or current president thinks it will. The PRC economy has declined and has a glut of steel and aluminum. Even if the US quadruples tariffs they can still sell at low cost to other countries who can sell back to the US. The better strategy might be through subsidizing US production to make it competitive with foreign steel.
