i don't want to hear about team turning the corner. team flipping the switch until the record is ****ing at 0.500.
The further we get into 2024 the less leash this team has. The more important each game becomes. I still think the pitching will be fine. If JV, Framber, and Urquidy all get healthy then the bullpen can recover and the big 3 will find their level. The issue will come down to 1B and CF, which is not new. If Singleton can manage to keep a 100ish wRC+/OPS+ and starts 50%+ of the games then1B becomes less of an issue. That's a tough bet. 1B is all about Abreu. Can he get back to MLB average? Do the Astros have the guts to jettison him? My worst fear is him giving a positive glimpse every couple of games so no change is ever made. Loperfido, Cabbage, Hensley, and Wagner look to be the current options to replace him on the roster. CF needs to be the Meyers and McCormick show. With them in the OF this team is better. Offensively (so far) and defensively. Dubon is a great 10th man. It's a shame he can't play 1b, apparently. If he could they would have started him there this year already. His contact bat and ability to fill in anywhere there is an injury, player day off, and/or substitution is extremely valuable. If the team decides he needs to start more often then: I suggest DHing Altuve twice per week (Yordan's LF days), Give Altuve, Pena, and Bregman each a day off once every 2 weeks. That's 5 starts every 2 weeks (about 65 over 162g) for Dubon if everyone stays healthy.
I'm the eternal optimist, but I'm getting a little discouraged. We just can't seem to get our act together. Either we can't hit, have terrible starting pitching, or our relievers screw the pooch. There have been only 2 games that we've had everyone show up. Subtract Blanco and our season would be a complete shitshow.
Hard to win when we are down 5 plus runs in the first. Batters press, pitchers try to make the perfect pitch, abreu starts to abreu all over the place.
I usually stay away from this kind of stuff but the suck of Abreu is so outstanding that modern man may need to change the term BJ to the moniker of an “Abreu”……
It's pretty hexagonal at this point. Stros either get their **** together soon and get back in the race, or they don't, and just embarrass themselves. 2000 Astros, or 2001 Astros?
teammates/brothers in that clubhouse... or individuals divided amongst many...?? ...this is what I'd like to know (bc fandom)
The thing is, our window has not closed. This team is LOADED. They've got to get the **** out this funk.
What's frustrating is that our division sucks (so far). Just play slightly above .500 and we wouldn't have to play catch-up all year like we did last year. Instead, we're 10 games below .500.
Don't forget that the games when pitching and hitting actually is working... we get the Altuve special on the bases or the Abreu fielding adventures
2001 team took off after Oswalt promoted. Its still going to come down to consistent starting pitching. Teams with consistent starting pitching win a lot of games.
