Looking at Savant, I’m even more impressed. Will be interesting to see his AAA Stuff+ if that becomes available as he doesn’t generate a lot of raw spin. Maybe a gyro guy? In this start he had a 32% CSW and generated 17! whiffs. He had four separate pitches he threw at least ten times and which had a CSW above 30% - 4S Fastball, cutter, curve, and change. His fastball generated 6 whiffs on 11 swings. That was a dominant performance. Maybe they should be aggressive with him.
I wonder if the Astros would consider trading some of these prospects for starting pitching. As a fan I hate losing prospects but more often than not they don’t pan out. For example I hated trading Valdez to the Red Sox but now he’s pedestrian. I would have hated losing Whitley or Hunter Brown in the past but now how much value have they lost. Maybe the Astros should consider trading prospects this year to win again especially if there are no plans to backfill Bregman or Tucker.
No teams are selling pitching right now. The Astros can either get by with what they have or massively overpay to convince a team to trade them a pitcher.
Andrew Taylor pitched the final four innings and allowed two hits, one of which was a solo home run, walked two, and struck out six to finish off Asheville's 7-1 win over Brooklyn.
Ok I’ve been the voice of temperance here but got dang 8 HR in 12 games is ridiculous and at some point a guy’s production is so magnificent that strikeout rate be damned you gotta call him up.
