After you finish the series, the accompanying documentary is a must-watch.

I finished the series and overall liked it and thought it was very good. I haven't seen the accompanying documentary but have watched some other documentaries about the Bloody 100 and just incredible what they went through.

I've got a couple of criticism though mainly that for such a sprawling story with many characters it felt rushed and other than Buck, Bucky, and Crosby didn't feel like there was much character development or insight. The last episode felt very rushed and just that because they didn't have a couple of more episodes they were just cramming the whole last year of the war into one hour.

While much of the show is focused on the pilots and navigators the most dangerous job on B-17 was the ball turret gunner.

The Tuskegee airman and the Subaltern characters and story were very underdeveloped.

Yea. Series could have easily been 12 episodes. They just left us hanging with Sandra Westgates story.

A look at what the war was like from the Luftwaffe point of view. Really amazing how many missions some of the top German pilots flew and how many aerial victories their top aces won. Also how attacking a B-17 was very dangerous.

Generally, this is considered to have been a huge mistake by Germany. The best US pilots rerurned to the US and taught younger pilots all of their knowledge.

The top German pilots flew until they died and when they did, all of their skill and knowledge was lost with them.

Germany fighting a two front war and dealing with almost constant bombardment don’t have much choice. In the video it talks about rotating pilots from the Eastern to Western fronts as the Eastern front was considered easier.

I watched this recently and enjoyed it. It was more similar the The Pacific than Band of Brothers, both of which I rewatched earlier this year. This and The Pacific followed the perspectives of a few characters, whereas Band of Brothers was more about the company and featured a different lead per episode.

Band of Brothers hits different because of the changing perspectives. It's hard to recreate what the original did, but it was a level above the others. The accompanying interviews added a lot more depth to the story, too, but obviously, most of these characters have passed with time.
