Finally watched Hoosiers for the first time and I think that gets my vote. Whatever happen to movies that are just simple, with a fantastic lead like Gene Hackman and wtf Dennis Hopper lmao. Was he playing a crackhead? Jk jk, but yeah Hoosiers gets my vote!
There's been a surprising lack of great basketball movies, I'm not sure why that it. If I were listing my favorite sports movies ever, I can probably think of 10-20 movies before I even get to a basketball film. Hoosiers, Coach Carter, maybe White Men Can't Jump. Documentaries like Hoop Dreams (which is easily the best) aren't the same as movies IMO.
Hoosiers is my favorite............Hackman was awesome and Hopper was the perfect part. I loved the scene when they get to the state tournament and Hackman has them measure the rim to show them, hey, the rim and court are the same as back home
"Champions" with Woody Harrelson (was on Prime) is not even close to the best, but I thought I would mention it since few have probably seen it.
The documentary on how the alley-oop was discovered. I think it was called Semi-Pro. Also nods to The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh.
Simply the greatest work of acting titan Michael James Fox. It is also the quintessential basketball movie of at least the last 50 years, and likely ever. Fox trained for over a year with renowned round ball legend Xavier McDaniel to master the reverse dunk to bring more authenticity to the role of Teen Wolf. If anyone has not seen Teen Wolf - I highly recommend it. It really is Fox's opus and was shot shortly after his diagnosis of Parkinsons disease, when Fox knew his health would soon fail.
