Javier’s performance (unlike Framber’s yesterday), extremely encouraging. Abreu suspension was hard felt tonight. Hitting was frustrating, but they had a pretty good, potentially great, pitcher on the mound themselves. The bridge between starter and the Pressly/Hader 8th/9th is a bit too far right now without Abreu, somewhat of a Galloping Gertie. Disappointing first two any way you slice it, but all is not lost
Lots of hot takes after 2 games and arguably our best reliever DNP'ing. Astros have 4 injured starters. When the hell are they due back? And where is this Arrighetti guy? When they get healthy, some of them need a multi-inning/appearance bullpen mindset. Astros will be fine. The biggest problem is the wack RISP hitting. Batter's eye, right? Stros might need a MMP exorcism. Javier's outing was close to his career best, regular season -- zero runs and only 90 pitches. If he maintains this efficiency he's capable of a mid-2.00 ERA. Broadcast said he had 8 swing-and-misses with only one from his fastball. Not sure if that's progress, but I don't care how it happens if he's throwing 6 innings, <2 runs on 90 pitches. Big start for Hunter tomorrow. He's our only potential horse besides Framber, and that's scary because Framber is scary too. Our big 3 relievers are all available tomorrow. Pressly can go ahead and not suck again, along with the offense. Six innings from Brown would be great, seven would be gravy. As for Montero, a low-4.00 is highly acceptable. Terrible signing though.
People criticized me when I suggested using Hunter Brown in the bullpen for a 4th arm.... Might have to after JV comes back... I don't see France having the same potential reliability in the pen... Also wouldn't mind seeing Whitley or Spencer up over the guys who have career ERAs in nearly double digits... can't be much worse...
Yeah, that $30M anchor really ****ing hurts right now and we're stuck with both through the end of next year.
Rough 2 games for sure, but let's not all forget the Yankees are stacked and when they are on they are on. I am not worried, I am pissed we lost but we`ll be fine.
Totally. I have faith in this team to right the ship and eventually win the AL West as I still believe we have a better roster than Arlington and Seattle. I just don't have faith in getting value from the combined $30M we're paying Montero and Abreu.
Only 2 games, but these Spankees fans think they won playoff games seeing how aroused they are. They think Juan Soto will accept a pay cut stay as Yankees. Was B.Abreu not available?!?!?!?!?
We did... but sacrificed depth thinking Hader as a big name signing was enough to offset the absence of Graveman, Stanek, Maton, and Neris while not anticipating the injuries of Urquidy and Verlander.
