Wasn't the December-Jan rally sparked on speculation of 7 rate cuts in 2024?

Narratives beats fundamentals as long as you spike the punch bowl and there's stories for everyone.

Got a REAL question for the boomers.

My W2 employer (for reasons unknown to me at this time) dicked around on their 401k plan this year and I was hit with HCE. I just got the notice last week. Never happened before. They are apologizing saying it will not be the case next year.

What options do I have to offset the income they sent back to me? Does it affect me in 2024 or 2023 tax year?

I also have 1099 consulting income and minority ownership in another company. Is solo 401k something?

    Help.

I think if it’s W2 income you just have to eat it in taxes despite your employer messing up. But your employer should also have payed it as taxed income so it won’t be so bad. Unless you’ve already filed.

The income would count for the tax year it was received, generally.

Edit: I may also be completely misunderstanding your financial question. I am assuming the employer messed up on your contributions because they said you made too much and some would be treated as taxable income.

HCE (from what I understand) isn't about me making too much, it's about people in the company's plan (their problem somehow becomes my problem) not participating as much as I am.

If I understand it correctly, more of my income will now be subject to tax and I forfeit the benefit of long-term savings (something I was anticipating and plan for). Basically, I couldn't max my 401k last year, but they there was no way to know that until 2024. Company has a different "max" due to HCE.

I feel like I was ****ed.

DJT up 50% since it debuted today on the NASDAQ.

Unbelievable evaluation. The shorts are licking their chops lying in wait.

I wonder how fast the board will approve their leader to dump his shares and then have the company go belly up

Yeah. I don't mess with it anymore. I was referencing the guy that burned himself outside of Trump's trial. His manifesto begins with PLTR.
