Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff reveals he was threatened by sports bettors: ‘Dangerous game’

    https://nypost.com/2024/03/20/sport...-reveals-he-was-threatened-by-sports-bettors/

    excerpt:

Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff made a startling revelation Wednesday night that highlighted some growing discontent in the NBA over the consequences of legalized sports betting.

Bickerstaff told reporters that bettors had been able to get a hold of his phone number last season, and they “were sending me crazy messages about where I live and my kids and all that stuff.”

“It’s a dangerous game. A fine line that we’re walking for sure,” he said.

Bickerstaff said he alerted security, and they were able to locate the person, but no charges were ever filed.

The way the Cavs have been playing, there were some lackluster performances as of late.

Unfortunately, that 2002 WCF Lakers/Kings series and our 2018 WCF Rockets/GSW series are the two worst officiated playoff games I've ever seen in any sport in my lifetime.

Ever notice how when ex-mafia members talk about gambling, it’s primarily boxing and basketball. It doesn’t matter the basketball league, Highs school, college, NBA seem to be their piggy banks. Point shaving seems the easiest in basketball. Football is so magnified, that every move is dissected meticulously and it can lead to players getting cut. Baseball, you can cheat all you want but, players still have to hit the ball fair. Boxing is so blatant once it get to the judges, I don’t know many people who follow it nowadays.

Mafia putting pressure to rig game is more believable (and logical) than the NBA itself being corrupt and doing dumb **** like giving Zion to Pelicans and Wemby to SAS when those players could have gone to big market teams.

Deep in the South of Texas
    Not so long ago
    There on a crowded island
    In the Gulf of Mexico

It didn't take too much money
Man, but it sure was nice.
You could dance all night if you felt all right
    Drinking whiskey and throwing dice.

    And everybody knows
    It was hard to leave.
    And everybody knows
It was down at the Balinese.
