If I understand what I've been reading between the lines about CJ Henderson, he's a terrific athlete....he's just kind of a moron. He runs terrible routes, gets confused by even basic stuff, and very often commits some of the dumbest pass interference penalties ever.

Typical "I can fix him" type of signing.

No Nelson or Howard. Hope he surprises like Grffin last year but that 2nd cb slot is so important.
94% snaps go to each CB1 and CB2.

    Just putting this out there...
    CJ Henderson
2020: Henderson made his NFL debut in the season opener on September 13, 2020, against the Indianapolis Colts, starting and recording 5 tackles and his first career interception, picking off a pass from Philip Rivers and returning it for 22 yards, and defending 3 passes, including breaking up a pass on a 4th down late in the 4th quarter to secure a Jaguars' 27–20 win, and was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. In Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers, Henderson forced a fumble on wide receiver Davante Adams which was recovered by teammate Myles Jack. He was placed on IR on November 19, 2020, with a groin injury.

2021: Henderson was traded to the Carolina Panthers mid-season. He had 39 total tackles, but not really much else.

2022: Appeared in all 17 games and finished with 58 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 6 passes defended, and a forced fumble.

2023: Appeared in 12 games and finished with 39 total tackles, 2 passes defended, and a sack.

For our more football savy Texans fans, is Demeco's defensive system more straight forward for cornerbacks? Can they coach up talented, but underperforming corners?

I think the goal is to partner a pass rush with sticky CBs who are in position to make a play on the ball when QBs are off script

    125. CJ Henderson, CB, Panthers (25)

Injured for most of the 2023 season, Henderson — who was a first-round pick by the Jaguars on 2020 — has the height, weight and skill set to be a quality cornerback. He just needs a larger body of work. He would rank higher if healthy. — Randy Mueller, The Athletic

    Trust in their process.

If we can turn Nelson and Houston-Carson into serviceable DBs, I’m confident at least one or two of these guys will be able to contribute at least decent play on the backend.

They run more zone, but to help they've gotta get the S position fixed.

Young athletes often have difficulty seeing the fine line between controlled aggression and uncontrolled aggression. It doesn't help when refs find uniforms more convincing than play when making their decisions on plays at the edge.

Now that we've gotten reality out of the way, think of Demeco like the football version of Bret Strom. If he sees something he thinks he can fix, he'll take a flyer. He hits enough to make it worthwhile. There is no expectation he will ALWAYS HIT. So far, he's done well taking prove it deal players and making them work well enough we can't afford to keep them all. Also like Strom, he has an excellent working staff to accomplish a transition.

    It is interesting.

Taking players that have tons of talent, but failed in a scheme and telling them "don't think, just react."
