Dodgers fans have to be really stressing the other Japanese free agent they signed to a massive contract. Had a rough spring and only made it one inning today. I assume he'll be OK as Japanese stars have a pretty impressive track record of success here. Daisuke is the worst big pitcher I can recall and even he had an ok career, just not nearly worth his contract.
That Lorenzen deal is ridiculously low. Rangers paying a solid #3/4 SP 1/3 what the Astros are paying Montero.

Yamamoto will be fine. His command hasn't been the greatest, and there is a lot of pressure. He will settle down.
So, unless a guy becomes available who is better than Verlander, we sit on our hands? The Dana do nothing approach?
Why are people acting like Michael Lorenzen is some mid rotation workhorse? His first season as a starter and his projected ERA numbers were in the mid 4's, he's just a guy you thrown in at the back of the rotation on a good team. Had some good BABIP luck to start last season to overinflate his actual level, Would he be an improvement over Bielak, probably, but Crane has established pretty damn clearly that he isn't playing LT money for fringe improvements.
I think it's the principle of just sitting on your ass waiting for other teams to sign key players that bothers us REAL LEGENDS.
You guys are spoiled. Do the Astros have starting rotation concerns? Sure. There is still no rush to make something happen. Let’s see some of these younger guys get a chance.the team will know more soon enough. Something or someone will shake loose on the trade market. The marathon hasn’t even begun yet and some of you are acting like the race is about over.
I hope your right. Here's a quick breakdown of our rotation. JV - Old Framber - mental headcase Javier - 4.5, 4.6 era last year. Brown - 5 era last year. France - hoping he has a good year again and last year wasn't a fluke Urquidy - good for giving up batting practice HR's. Bielak - Suxxxx Blanco - suxxxx McCullers - healthy? good one! Garcia - Not until July/August.
A lot of questions no doubt. Just not sure they will be solved before the season begins. Time to asses once the season gets going.
