I would love to have some beef at DT, but I don’t think Demeco is worried about that. I’m kind of scared of Sweat. To me he just looks too fat (I’m not really one to talk), but conditioning is really important in todays NFL. I love that we signed Hunter, but, man, a monster DT next to WA would have been absolutely unsolvable. I watched our offense absolutely collapsed by DT’s last year and would love to see that from us.

Lance Zierlien has noted that maybe Sweat is not Demeco's kind of player.
DT is a need, but I think the secondary has holes, too.
I would also be disappointed if the Texans didn't nab one of these wide recievers. So many good options there.

I have pondered those questions myself. To be the second heaviest defensive player at the combine in 25 years is scary good and scary bad. The scary good is seeing two defenders having to block that beast of a man, which would leave space for other defenders to rush the QB. The scary bad is whether the weight becomes a health and endurance issue down the road, and whether he can keep from gaining more weight as he gets older. Honestly, I'm torn either way.

Ryans has described his defense as being fast, physical, and tough. He's referenced JJ Watt in particular when discussing the traits he would like to see in his players. This is why I think Braden Fiske (6-foot-4, 292) might be the perfect fit for DeMeco's style defense. JJ was 6’ 5’’ and 290 lbs at the combine, which is similar in build, and they are both quick, explosive, and agile type players.

Fiske made a clean sweep of first-place finishes in the speed and explosion drills, Fiske ran the fastest 40-yard dash, registered the highest vertical jump, as well as the longest broad jump. He scored an unofficial 9.92 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 14 out of 1620 DT from 1987 to 2024.

So, would DeMeco switch it up and use someone like Sweat as the gigantic wall of a man that requires two defenders to stop him, or will he pick someone more physically fit, leaner, and faster as that pick instead? Maybe even DeMeco is contemplating that decision. I like the idea of Sweat on our defense. He's such a big guy, and we have others already very capable of getting to the QB and putting on the sacks, while Sweat keeps a couple defenders focused on him, or knocks them over like dominoes.

The story on a lot of large players is that their motor runs hot and cold. Is playing hard and consistently an issue with Sweat?

I'm not a Baker fan in the 2nd. Maybe the 3rd. I'm a huge Thomas fan.
