Too bad the lure of being a CJ target vs a "Swishing my hair boy" target on a better team wouldn't sway him our way. That, and being the strongest SuperBowl contender of those teams.

Probably not as splashy, and definitely not as expensive, but I would be just as happy getting Hollywood Brown! I think having CJ throwing passes to him, and having Nico playing the opposite side would unleash this young man! I digress....

    Go Texans!!!

Agreed but we don't have anywhere near the money to pay him. NFL players have to secure what they can and I understand that.

I like it the way it is. If it gets to the point that no great QB is going to win a Superbowl with a team because they want almost a quarter billion dollars for 5 years, then so be it. Coaches can weigh the odds and choose whether or not that's a winning approach down the road, if they can't sign many stars at other key positions. It's a team sport. You don't have to have the best QB in the league to win a Superbowl if you have a great defense, a good QB, a good set of wide receivers, and a great rushing team.

Although I love Nico and love Tank even more, I think as fans we sometimes fall in love with WR's because they make the highlights and are splashy. But as you stated here, it's about mismatches in the NFL, and unfortunately, the top WR's from the last decade or so don't win nearly as much as the top TE's do. Because of the mismatches they create plus the little money they use up. I'm not saying I wouldn't want Tee Higgins or Justin Jefferson, I'm just saying Moss, TO, Odell etc....revolving the offense around WR's with big money RARELY works out for team success. Because they can be negated MUCH easier than an elite TE can.

Look at Tyreek's Dolphins or Justin Jefferson's Vikings.

I think we've seen the Brady and Mahomes long enough to realize that you don't need elite WR's to win in the NFL, but you do need good QB play, and good pass rush without blitzing. All of that to say, I'd still look to defense with our 1st Round Pick, or if Brock Bowers fell, I'd be willing to give up an uncomfortable amount of draft capital to go get him.

Wonder if we can snag Keenan Allen. I assume cut or trade Robert Woods.

Would be a nice veteran security blanket for CJ.

Why are people so eager to throw money at WRs?

Last time I checked we have plenty of competent targets for CJ.

You don't need four starting caliber pass catchers on the field simultaneously.

A Great TE makes a world of difference in a team!!
There are far few great tight ends than great receivers, and if you snag one, it could be like winning the lotto. So many Superbowl teams had the best tight ends in the league.

I am in the camp of not spending big money or lots of resources on a trade for a WR but I would still like us to add a WR in R1 or R2. This draft class is insanely deep at the WR position and I think we can get a guy who can slide in immediately at WR3 in those rounds. My concern is that before last year Nico had trouble staying healthy, Tank is a smaller guy and got injured (although it be a freak one) and Noah Brown was often injured last year too. Injuries happen in football but without Tank and Noah, CJ was throwing to Nico, Schultz, then a huge drop off to metchie and hutch in that baltimore playoff game and the offense looked abysmal. This offseason has shown that this team is ready to make a serious run, I think improving the WR room by adding another guy who could leap Brown, Metchie, and Hutch on the depth chart would really make the offense more dynamic but also protect the team from another injury crisis

I figured they would keep him. Just saying IF he was somehow cut.
