I was looking at Sportsline.com and it shows that if the season were to end today the playoff series would be : LA vs StL Chicago vs Atl Minn vs Yankees Boston vs Oakland I always thought the WILD CARD would play the team with the BEST RECORD? or Do they play the Division winner with the 2nd best record? Just curious, I thought if Astros were to make it we would play ST LOUIS in the 1st rd. instead it would be ATL?
Not only that. but Clemens did not give us homefield advantage in the world series. We got a tough road to go.
Piazza shouldn't have tipped the pitches then. That's why it's silly to let the result of a game in which the key participants are from teams that have no chance at the playoffs.
You are correct, if the wild card comes from the division with the team with the best record, the wild card plays the division winner with the second best record.
