tesla needs to work towards making family sized cars in the 25k-30k price range. it might even help with the anti-ev crowd. i think some of it has to do with the haves and have nots element.

You can get a base trim CR-V, Rav4, CX-5 or Tuscon for under 30K.

    All perfectly fine family vehicles.

    Unfortunately they don't.

You can unbolt them and remove them, but it ****s with the airbags so it's not recommended.

Stupid, stupid design oversight on Toyota's part.

EVs sales are going about as well as you would expect in the US.

    - lot of misinformed customers about range, battery replacement costs, models etc..
    - highly political topic
    - vocal CEO of the #1 brand which has led to even more polarization
    - poor charging infrastructure
    - geographical concerns / distance driven by americans

but most of all......why bother? plenty of gas powered cars that are still available for sale. why go out of your way to take on new headaches?

i think it's an ideal choice for families with more than 1 car...i.e. if you have 2-3 cars, start with one EV.
and people with homes or ability to charge easily overnight.

The two that are synonymous with "family sedans", Toyota Camry and Honda Accord start at around $26-$27k.

This is obviously under optimal conditions. In cold weather, my Mach-E, listed at 310 miles, sometimes drops to 260 and on perfect days, I can get 340. But still, more options is progress.

Did you forget to post the two new rivian models they revealed? Just the pausing construction part is all that was announced today?

This is a minimum 2 years out. If they are pausing a factory, then it seems like they do not expect any real growth.

I am not trying to be anti-Rivian. Rivian is by far the second best EV on the market. But they have a serious debt problem and no money for innovation outside of shining up the exterior of the vehicles. They will likely be pushed into Tesla's supply chain in time.

inflation? dealing with the rise in manufacturing costs and what people can afford now. companies are either pulling out or forced to redesign their platforms. low production costs, this is tesla's true superiority.

hey all i am saying is it seems a little disingenuous to post just the negative news.

not saying rivian is doing fine and dandy ...

Im viewing it 10 years out. While its exciting to see the R2 and R3, the ultimate question is going to be demand and production capability. The must sell the most profitable vehicle upfront, so those price points are going to be 5k+ higher for the first several months...if there is moderate demand.

Their ultimate problem will be competing with Tesla. The R2/R3 are of similar class as the MY/M3.

At this point, its not about Tesla vs Rivian/Ford/Ect.... but on a global scale of Tesla vs BYD. For the American market, we all should be pushing for our EV's to dominate the global market, regardless of what happens domestically. Tesla will be better off with a strong US competitor. Currently Tesla is carrying the market with 3+1 factories, 1 battery factory, 1 lithium refinery, and 1 energy related factory.

It seems at this point, it would be best if Rivian, Lucid Air and Ford consolidate. Ford can provide the factories and service centers.

    Almost.

$ 10,500 seems to be the cheapest on Autotrader.

the regulations will continue to make ICE cars more expensive, less reliable and less appealing. When they are all 4 cylinder turbo blob shaped, they might as well be electric.

Vehicles made in the last 10 years will age POORLY, cylinder deactivation, Stop/Start, aggressive EGR function through cam phasing, high service intervals. These things are going to put huge pressure on people used to buying 8-10 year old cars and driving them for 10 years.

They will be as done with ICE cars as people who got screwed buy brand new BMW and Mercedes and all fled to Tesla.
