Saw it. It is probably my favorite movie since Avengers Infinity War. Movies in general have been blah for a while. This one was "epic" and I say that without hesitation. Ranks right there for me with the Nolan Batman films, Avenger films, LOR trio.
Def an excellent movie. I think the recency bias says OMG best ever for sure. I think it held its own with some of the best sci fi flicks of the 2000's. Stilgar was freaking hilarious.
Just saw it this afternoon. I really enjoyed it. As epic sci-fi goes, it definitely delivered in all the ways I wanted. I think for people that have seen the first one recently there won't be an issue with non-book readers being confused, either. It does suffer a bit from being a little too dour, sometimes. A lot of brooding, but that's pretty well in keeping with Hebert and the books. I could see where some people might struggle a little with not having a clear person to root for. Without spoiling too much, I thought it was interesting that they definintely made some decisions with a future 3rd movie in mind. I hope that's a real possibility, but I'm not getting my hopes up at this point. I'm just glad we got what we did. I could see the 2nd book being filmed and people enjoying it. Much beyond that I think it will get a little too weird for most folk, and probably wouldn't be greenlit by the studios.
Part 3 is all but confirmed. Just don't expect a Return of the Jedi send off after Part 3. DV is going to let someone else **** that complex disaster up. Hopefully they build a couple complex well done tv series before attempting Part 4
I was agreeing with this quote by @Buck Turgidson Also, I don’t bother posting much to criticize a movie
The sleeper has awaken in imax saw this in imax and I thought Elvis played the Sting part better The special effects were legit unlike recent movies
Rebecca Furgeson is too young and hot to be Timothy’s mom. I guess they have kids real early in the year 10000 @Jontro real life ages Timothy - 31 Rebecca - 40
I saw it in imax with Dolby sound, excellent, and definitely recommend it. I enjoy this channel's opinion on Dune as he's read all of the Dune books, and movies and pretty much specializes in videos for it for years. *Spoilers*
Yep. I think it fulfills it. Wasn't a follower of the books either by the way. Just found the movie extremely well done in almost every facet.
Dune is pretty woke. The entitled Western Europeans (House Atredies) is granted the Middle East fief (Arrakis) by the Emperor/House Corrino (United States) to replace House Harkonnen (Russians) in harvesting the spice (oil)which makes the universe go round.Russia sucker punches Westeen Europe with the blessing of the US because the US has become fearful of Europe. However the heir (Paul Atredies) to Europe survives because his mother disobeyed the Bene Gessetit cult she belongs to(deep state). The heir then befriends the Fremen (Arabs) and over throw the Russians and manage to defeat the US too, thus becoming rulers of the universe. Spoiler Spoiler part 3: Paul turns out to be an evil dictator and unleashes a jihad that kills billions of people in the name is Islam. And thus, some things never change. The deep state eventually regains control and rules happily ever after
Villeneuve did well with those shots, especially with the Harkonnen marching like a nazi regime. Iirc, he went back and forth in that segment with the black and white and very muted colors in some scenes. Really well done.
