Tons of martyrs in Russia. Practically their identity - a country of martyrs and serfs who don't give a f*ck about those martyrs as long as they have bread. edit: sad day for Russia - a new north korea had appeared today.
Russia likes to celebrate martyrs such as those who died in WWII. Navalny though is a different case. He's someone that actually was out of Russia while Putin was trying to kill him and came back of his own free will. That makes it hard if not impossible for the Putin regime to manipulate his memory to their benefit.
He was probably going to get killed any where. The fact he went back to torture was super brave. Hope something good comes out of it, but probably won't.

He was a nationalist but he also was very critical of the corruption under Putin. We don't know for sure what sort of leader he would've ended up if he couldve taken over but he showed that he wasn't Prigozhin who was out to both personally enrich himself and carve out his own power base. He was willing to sacrifice himself to set an example for the Russian people.
He set an example to MAGA people apparently, but certainly not for Russian people. Russian people know of a lot of martyrs - in Russia people die for money, family, motherland all the time. The 70% of sheep that are under propoganda control probably have their sons or friends' sons dying/suffering-inhumane-conditions in a knowingly unjust war, those sheep will easily justify his death from that perspective as a dude who died wanting power and money. But sure, I hope you are right in your optimism that they will get rallied with THIS death. Good luck to us on that.
I hate politics. Makes people idiots. I don't understand how government servants have to have a ****ing fan base. These are public servants that are elected to offices to serve the people. Instead it has become a clown show with uneducated trash being elected to serve us and individuals worship these clowns. I'm sick of it.

I think it was a huge mistake to go back to Russia. Should have stayed abroad and organized the opposition from there.
He didn’t feel he could be effective outside of Russia. He knew what would happen when he returned to Russia. He felt it would be powerfully symbolic to do so.
I understand that's how he felt, but he would be more effective alive than dead. There is no figurehead for the opposition in Russia.
It's disgusting and sickening that MAGA folks have this mentality. Since when are Biden opponents falling off balconies, dying in plane crashes, and dying of poisoning?
Hard to tell. Without skin in the game, he wouldn't be as effective in conveying his message. The reason he's a hero is that he risked death for Russia and its people. Being a hero gives him the world stage, and that stage allows his message to spread throughout the world.
The thing about this argument is they are making it to where if Biden is re-elected and Trump has to serve time that Biden will be in a much tougher spot to intervene on Trumps behalf to stay out of prison because it will now be viewed as caving to the pressure on the right.
