I don't know what kind of market there will be for 27 year old Derek Barnett. Outside of the Texans, his last best results was in 2020. Barnett might want to sign a one year prove it deal with the Texans, to build back his market value.
Also.... we really need to properly slot the Pro Bowl. Nice that the team is being recognized, etc. But it really doesn't mean much. The two best teams - who, ostensibly, would have a lot of really good players - don't participate; generally, the third and fourth best teams don't participate, either, as their season just ended. And a variety of other players routinely opt out for a variety of reasons, and many of the picks are the 3rd, 4th, 5th alternate... It's just not a big deal. But! obviously better to have some than none!
I mean... if CJ Stroud had a rookie season on par with Bryce Young's - or even just a mediocre season... it would've been an abject disaster of a trade. You can't overstate what a seismic impact CJ Stroud has had on this franchise. Dre is in the HoF; Watt will follow him in four years. But you could already make the argument that Stroud might be the most important pick in this team's history. And absolutely nobody - not a soul - thought that in April '23. So I don't have any issue with - before knowing results - people opining on the trade - which was, even at the time, a gigantic risk. I'm thrilled beyond belief to have Will Anderson - but, boy... it could've been *really* bad...
True, but even though a QB pick was mandated by Hannah at least Caserio/Ryans got their eval right and luckily Stroud fell to 1-2. Ryans mandated the WA pick as the cornerstone of hidefense and wanted WA at 1-2. Caserio was smart enough to figure out how to accomplish both what ownership and the new HC wanted. For this Caserio deserves GM of the year award. He successfully navigated the mine field of politics and found two great star level players that helped set the culture of the franchise for the next decade. Kudos for Caserio, many have failed when they've been put in this predicament.
what if... doesnt exist, and it could apply to every team, it could've been "really bad" if the 49ers doesnt pick Purdy, with the last pick, especially because they traded 3 1st rounds picks for Trey Lance, I dont think they will be in the superbowl this year, if they dont have Purdy, and have to settle with another 3 years of Jimmy G, or Trey Lance. It could've been really bad for the Chiefs, if they drafted Watson instead of Mahomes, especially since they also traded up to get their guy.
