A reasonable Jalen extension would make some sense, but extending Sengun is stupid. His cap hit will be way lower then his salary so no reason at all to extend alpi.
Y'all probably need to watch other teams' picks, too. Like San Antonio. Toronto's pick is protected 1-6, but outside that, the Spurs get the pick. That would put them in the driver's seat in terms of pick probabilities. Does Wemby want to play with his French buddy A. Sarr (not to be confused with Ausar)? Similar happenings with OKC , ATL, and POR in terms of multiple picks and increasing probabilities. I don't expect Indiana to be in the lottery (except through injury or maybe via Play-In), but that would affect Toronto's probabilities as well. At least a couple of teams could have a better shot than they "should" at the #1-#4 picks than others. Still way too early to see what's going to happen.
If Sengun is your franchise player than you show ****ing commitment by extending and not waiting or the market to make an offer. Seriously, which team has not given their franchise player a max offer extension prior to the last year of their rookie deal??? I guess we will see how the Rockets truly feel about Sengun before next season. Who gives a **** about cap space, you don't disrespect the player you are handing the keys to like that. Not sure of Sengun is the guy but I certainly feel like it.
Yeah, no. This is penny wise and pound foolish. You extend Sengun and don’t think twice about it, period.
Yeah, don't play games with this--get him locked up and establish good will on contract issues right away.
Philly did it this season with maxey. For high draft picks, it’s fine to extend them because their cap hit is high anyway. For low draft picks, it’s stupid because you are burning cap space. Waiting a year to build a better team around sengun while giving him a max isn’t exactly “disrespect”
Ya this is what i expect to happen. Rockets are not nearly a good enough franchise or run well enough to do things properly
Good franchises extend their franchise players. Dumb franchises play games. The NBA does not incentivize game playing with franchise players.
Meh, philly didn’t extend maxey because he was a low pick so it just burns cap space, same situation here.
It’s so funny to look around the league at all the other fanbases jealous that we landed Sengun at 16. Here, our “fans” like @astrosrule are arguing he shouldn’t be extended. So dumb.
