The “hard work ethic” in the USA largely is kept alive by immigrants in the USA - it is a massive strength in innovation and keeps the cultural idealism of “hard working” being an American virtue - true.
Interesting... early in the year republicans opposed any aid for Ukraine unless connected to border security. A bipartisan proposal was finally brought forth for vote and maga republicans led by donald trump opposed it. So now, a bipartisan aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan without border security is being advanced in the Senate and may pass.
I think there's a general sentiment among Senate Republicans that the House Republican leadership is filled with absolute morons and at some point they just have to stick it to the House Rs and let them take the fall. The Senate Rs have been covering for them by filibustering legislation that would otherwise pass the Senate simply to deflect attention from House Republicans. But at a certain point, the Senate Republicans have to assert themselves and force the House Republicans to either play along or own the responsibility for legislation failing to pass. I think the blowback from this whole episode has a lot of the Senate just fed up with the fact that they keep bailing out House Republicans. Additionally Sen. McConnell is facing some pretty open challenges to his leadership so he has a vested interest in asserting some power and getting the bill that he wanted through (which was the supplemental aid package without the immigration provisions) so he has a vested interest in this as well.

Before anyone claims that Democrats oppose border security... graham, who previously required Ukraine aid to border security, then voted against the bipartisan border security proposal that included Ukraine/Israel/Taiwan aid, and now says he won't vote for Ukraine/Israel/Taiwan aid... without border security. trump and maga republicans are the problem, plain and simple.
I would like to hope so but it appears several Republican senators are behaving like their house colleagues or too craven to oppose others in the party.
