This team has 7 SP who have started more than 20 games in MLB and will be healthy to start the season. Assuming Framber, JV, and Javier are 1-3 starters, who do you choose for the rest of the rotation? Career SP stats for other 4. A) 1.133 WHIP, 7.3 K/9, 4.37 FIP, and 4.47 xFIP B) 1.346 WHIP, 6.6 K/9, 4.69 FIP, and 4.79 xFIP C) 1.336 WHIP, 10.3 K/9, 4.37 FIP, and 3.49 xFIP D) 1.571 WHIP, 7.2 K/9, 5.73 FIP, and 5.10 xFIP I pick A and C to be #4 and #5 SP. I only start D in an extreme emergency, and I hope and pray B does not need to start either. A is Urquidy B is France C is Brown D is Bielak Why would you move C to the bullpen and keep B in the rotation or D if there is need for a 6th SP. My opinion is that of the 7 only 5 are legitimate MLB SP.
For me the ideal situation is Urquidy and Brown in the rotation. Bielak would be the long man in the pen because he is out of options. Then France in AAA staying stretched out.
Miscellaneous stuff I heard today. Astros have reached out to the agent for Adam Duvall, Jorge Soler and JD Martinez. Astros pitching coach wants to open and run a 6 man staff. There is some pushback internally to that.
Because he would be another dominant arm in the bullpen and we have plenty of good starters. I think his future is as a starter but it doesn't need to be now.
If Hunter Brown is in the bullpen the first half of the season while France and/or Bielak starts, there is a very real chance the Astros miss the playoffs and that is the specific reason. Sitting Diaz throughout the playoffs would be almost as stupid. Are you Dusty using a secret online identity?
1st of all, the pitchers available to replace Brown are all AAAA caliber pitchers. 2nd of all, if a pitcher is good, you want him to throw 180 innings before you want him to throw 60 innings. A #4 starter is much much more important than a #4 relief pitcher.
Apparently he wants $240 million although weren't sure if it was for 6 years or 8 years. Regardless, $240 seems too much. After spending almost $95 on Hader, I would be very surprised if Crane went for it. Then again, he shocked me with Hader so who knows.
I haven’t heard of the Astros signing Snell. I can tell you that the Astros today reached out to the agents of some quality free agents and asked that they keep in contact.
Nook's post says the Astros contacted the agent that represents JD and a few other guys. It's unclear who they'd be interested in of that bunch.
