He is like every other billionaire. He's all about disruption. Whatever he can try to dick up he's going to try and dick up for the pure entertainment of it. It's not even about profit. It's a game. He's now all about disrupting the Pharmacy industries dick hold on us. And good for him. And good for us. It's a dick hold. But that's all this is. He's pivoting from dicking up the nba to dicking up pharmacy. But I do agree with his assessment that you need to get out or change your focus before the industry itself changes. He's been in the NBA a long time. And it's likely going to evolve beyond him. Life does that to everyone and everything. AI is the next big disruption to all of us. So re-focusing the team on gambling and real estate is interesting, but the fact he gave up control, instead of doing it himself, tells me he's not that interested in that, and is now playing in a different market to get his kicks. Otherwise, he would have maintained control and gone for it himself.
There is not just the two possible reasons that you state. There’s an third. Maybe he wants to cash out to do other things himself while remaining involved with the Mavs—his biggest passion. And it’s prudent to protect the Mavs value by selling to new owners who he thinks can increase his value. But with his partial cash out, he has more freedom to start something new, or maybe throw more into Cost Plus Drugs.
Mark is looking across town to what Jerry has done with the Cowboys and their multiple revenue streams and sees the casino/entertainment/Vegas glitz/glam as an opportunity to do something similar. LOL at liquidity crisis, health, etc.
