watching Cam and Amen last night made you realize why we won under 25 games the last 3 years. rookies in the NBA rarely ever produce positive results. Wembanyama can barely get his teams above the Pistons. Really makes you appreciate how great Lebron was that he immediately turned around Cleveland.

In fact, Lebron is the only HS'er to do this. For example, T-Mac and Kobe sucked their first year, and their games were still seen as immature by the middle of year 3. TMac was scoring 15.4 points on 12.9 shots with 3.3 assists in year 3. Kobe was 19.9 points on 15.6 shots (for reference, a lower EFG% than Jalen Green's current season). That's after 2 seasons of being SLOWLY groomed off the bench by playoff-chasing coaches with serious veterans and stars on the roster. However, there are ATG rookies out of college who impact their teams' wins in their first or second season. Tim Duncan, Hakeem come to mind.
Things are getting exciting with Cam playing real minutes. Leads the the team in STL%, after he led the NCAA last year. With him, Tari, Dillon and Fred, we have some really disruptive defenders. Also, rebounds! The kid gets boards. When you add the steals, the rebounds to a very intriguing offensive bag, I think we’ve got something to be excited about.
Cam already has a grown man's body. He won't get bullied by anyone in the league physically. Yesterday one one play he went straight at Giannis's body on a drive and drew a foul.
Im sorry but I have to comment when I see posts like this. Stephen Silas is the reason the Rockets were so bad. People keep misremembering, but Silas in year 1 had a team of all vets. The only young players that got any meaningful playing time was Tate who was an older rookie who played pro over seas and KMJ who got spot minutes. KPJ wasn’t a rookie, but he did play a little towards the end of the year. Year 2 was more of a mix between Vets and young players but there were still plenty of vets in the rotation. Wood, Gordon, Schroeder, Augustin, House, Nwaba, Theis, Garrison was an older young player at 25. The only Rookies who got meaningful minutes were Christopher, Sengun and Jalen. Ironically, the last year was the only year that the Rockets went super young with almost all of the roster having 3 years of experience or less and that was Last year…the only year Silas didn’t have THE worst record in the nba. They were 2nd worse. If you look at the team this year, the roster composition as far as age and experience in the rotation isn’t THAT much different. 3/5 of the starting lineup has 3 years of experience or less. Landale is an older low experience player. Tari is only year 2. They only play 4 players regularly with 5 years of experience or more and one of those guys in Brooks has been out for a few games. So yeah…it’s hard to with with Rookies and young players, but it’s even harder to win with Stephen Silas having any significant impact on your basketball team.
I try not to get too high on rookies that only play garbage time minutes, or sporadic minutes against bench units. Same as how I try not to get too high on players based on their G league performances. But it's really hard not to get excited about Cam, he just looks so god damn good. I can't help myself.
