Kind of crazy that 5 of these guys are or have been starters this year and done from exceptional to pretty good.

Damn Caserio, you just got nominated for NFL Executive of the Year

    https://www.nfl.com/news/top-five-candidates-for-2023-nfl-executive-of-the-year

The Pro Football Writers of America's Executive of the Year award isn't something you earn overnight.

Receiving that honor is typically the product of several years of premier team building -- and talent acquisition goes beyond the players. Being a general manager/vice president of player personnel sometimes includes the hiring of head coaches. It also requires building and developing a strong scouting/personnel staff that learns and executes the grading system you create or implement.

Being the head of football operations also includes salary cap management and roster building with a strategy. For instance, I am a true believer that accumulating resources (draft picks) creates value for a multitude of reasons. There is not one GM who is perfect; in fact, even the very best at drafting players miss more than they hit.

    -------------------------------------------------

Key acquisitions/signings: Caserio nabbed a ton of free agents last offseason who have paid off in big ways this fall, including offensive playmakers Devin Singletary, Dalton Schultz, Noah Brown, Robert Woods and even fullback Andrew Beck. His biggest priority was shoring up the offensive line for a soon-to-be drafted rookie quarterback, and he did so by extending Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil, trading for Shaq Mason and signing George Fant. Additional signings Sheldon Rankins, Jimmie Ward, Denzel Perryman and Shaquill Griffin have also keyed a big improvement on the defensive side from a year ago.

Draft outlook: The impact of this year’s Texans rookie class can’t be overstated. Caserio and the personnel department hit this haul out of the park. C.J. Stroud has exceeded expectations, becoming the clear front-runner for Offensive Rookie of the Year by elevating the play of Houston’s attack in every way. Trading a bundle for Will Anderson Jr. looks like it was a savvy move, given the rookie’s five sacks and the ability to consistently disrupt opposing offenses. While both have dealt with injuries in Year 1, second-rounder Juice Scruggs and sixth-rounder Jarrett Patterson have each played center for Houston. Tank Dell was absolutely sensational prior to breaking his leg earlier this month, racking up a team-best seven TD receptions in 11 games. Houston is also getting role production out of Dylan Horton, Henry To’oTo’o and Xavier Hutchinson.

Overview: The success Houston is enjoying in 2023 is chiefly the product of two straight strong draft classes. However, Caserio’s best offseason acquisition of all might be DeMeco Ryans, who has been exceptional in his first year as head coach. It’s extremely rare that a general manager gets to hire three head coaches in a three-year span. The only other instance of this during the Super Bowl era? Vikings GM Mike Lynn, who hired a new head coach each season from 1984 to ’86 (Les Steckel, Bud Grant, Jerry Burns). This season, we are seeing Caserio’s decisions over the last three years come together in alignment, putting the Texans in the playoff hunt for the first time since 2019.

Damn Caserio......If you are lucky enough to win this award, you need to walk right down the hall and hand it over to Demeco!

Before Demeco got here your trades, drafts and player acquisitions were below avg to avg at best.

As someone slowly (very slowly) warming up to Caserio - this isn't a terribly unfair perspective. The two best drafts in team history ('06 and '23) were when we handed high picks to Shanahan acolytes (Kubiak and DeMeco - and both prominently featured DeMeco!)

Maybe that's a coincidence? Or maybe it's a component of having a top picks? I don't know. But I will say: previous drafts are looking better (Collins, Harris, Singletary) and Caserio did very well in free agency (after years of just wasting free agency). Obviously, upgrading the coach is a significant factor, as is having a coach who knows what he wants. But it's very hard to argue Caserio didn't deliver in the first year of DeMeco.

If demeco is awesome and he hired demeco does he not get some credit for him being here?

I don't really want to diminish what Caserio has done, but how much credit should you really get for making the obvious choice? Demeco wanted to be here and the vast majority of fans had him as their first choice. It has been a great hire, but almost every one of us would have made the exact same decision.

My perception, right or wrong since I have no inside information, is that Caserio is comfortable choosing players by consensus and his biggest talent is networking with the other GMs to get the players they want via moves up and down or by trade. There is nothing wrong with consensus as long as it's not confused with authority.

If it was up to caserio, he would’ve hired his guy johnathan Gannon or some other coach with Patriots ties.

I hear you but fans thinking something is a slam Dunk vs it being a slam Dunk are 2 separate things. If demeco sucked it wouldn't be like fans would not critisize him bc "we all wanted him too" .
There were also concerns with Stroud so picking him wasn't a slam Dunk ans I don't think demecos team is doing as well if Stroud is.not the starting qb or tanl dell is a starting wr.

So he def deserves as much praise for getting demeco a team as demeco.deserves for coaching the team

It was Cal and Hannah decision to hire Demeco because that’s who the fans wanted.

If it wasn’t for Flores suing the nfl, caserio would’ve signed Gannon or McCown.

I didn't know Gannon had Patroit ties.

    Ryans was a great decision

That doesn't mean Gannon would've been a bad decision.

Not sure if true. Could be leverage for a new contract but I've always felt like he wanted an opportunity to be the GM then move back to NE.

If so, Adam Peters rumors will resurface.

Caserio should get no credit for the Demeco hire -- I'm not sure there is proof anywhere but that is 100% a Cal and Hannah decision.

That said, we can only really now begin to evaluate Caserio and his drafts and acquisitions are looking good. Granted, it helps a LOT when you have a good staff and scheme, not to mention elite QB. We'd feel a lot different about Nico Collins if Davis Mills was still throwing to him.

Stingley starting to pan out bodes really well for him too.

But the previous two years the franchise was in such an abyss due to having to recover from the hole that BOB dug plus incompetent leadership. The turnaround in perception for Cal and Hannah has been remarkable, just a year and a few months after firing Easterby.
