I think we are very lucky we are going to play the Pistons for the first game, T-mac and Yao will get to watch all the championship ceremonies and get pumped to win for the rest of the season and keep their mind on the prize..I think that this will stick with them more than a win or loss in the game... Anyone else think like this?
The Rockets of old opened up in NYC in 93 or 94 when the Rangers had won and apparently that got them pumped up - according to CD.
Right, and I think the next season they opened in NYC or something and got the energy off that...I don't really know, I just know CD was mentioning it in the paper when they released this years schedule since we open at Detroit.
It's mostly a marketing ploy by the NBA to get viewers interested early in the season. The Rockets are the most marketable NBA franchise now that Kobe and Shaq are on opposite coasts.
Being there for the rings presentation will motivate the rockets. The question is how long will that motivation last? We still have to see how much heart this team has and how well they mesh as a team. I do thinks its interesting the rockets open the season against the defending champs though.
Also, I believe that game is on election day anyway, so who knows how many people will be watching. I'll certainly watch every second but will definitely be switching during commercials.
theyre prolly gonna come with some intro like... "t-mac thrown out of the playoff race 2 years ago by the pistons.. now he wants revenge!!!" "YAO...!...." "Wallace...." "McGrady...!" "pistons ....rockets......... on ABC....NEXT" *abc intro music plays*
No he was talking about how the Rockets were in NY to see the Rangers parade and ceremonies from winning the NHL championship WHILE the Rox were facing the Knicks in the finals ... Remember the NBA finishes up a little later than the NHL
