So, what is it with the Spurs?

    1) Wemby not as good as people thought
    2) Pop has lost his edge
    3) Bad supporting cast
    4) Bad drafting, trades and FA signings
    5) They are actually better than this, but are trying to lose

Spurs are tanking because Silver is going to grant them another no.1 pick… it’s pretty obvious

first 1/4 of the season trying to integrate a #1 pick ; their best offensive player in Vassel was hurt.

Havent watched them that much , but i do think they should be a bit better than their record. Maybe their bench is ass

Wait, so you guys lambasted Stone for having a terrible record while insinuating the SAS were so far ahead of us. The Spurs currently suck with everyone's favorite draft pick, and we're 10-9. Why isn't the Spurs FO not being judged like Stone was? And why isn't Stone getting credit for turning this franchise around

In terms of a very bottom record, this is technically the beginning of year 2. The years prior they were in play in contention (mid / slightly below average). Spurs fans are kinda heated on Brian Wright, just depends on which corner of fandom you look.

For example, some of their fans are asking for less experimentation and start building around him right now. Like with trades, and spending draft picks, after the draft, they should have started the reshuffle this past summer. They'd even settle for a 'bridge' vet guard like a Chris Paul or Zach Lavinge, until a more permanent one can be found. Fans' sentiment on roster construction is that it feels less building around Wemby, than just bolting Wemby onto last year's team.

The heat on Stone here got turned on after year 2, because it felt progress was slow. Since we still didn't have at least one clear core person yet, we didn't kind of have one until start of year 4 (Ime era) with Sengun (under a different coach regime). Spurs are at start of year 2 and found a core already.

As far as heat on a GM, if Spurs rebuild is slow, it's technically good news for ClutchFans, so no out rage here.:D. They're doing what we were doing and overplaying their young players. My hope is they keep doing that and stay at the bottom.

This and only this. A child could call nothing but Wemby P&Rs and win 33 games at least. For all the keveching from the league with tanking this is the most obvious I've seen given you already have the franchise player.

Lot of people speculating the Spurs are hoping for another french 7 footer with Alex Sarr to form a twin eiffel tower lineup with Wemby. https://www.nba.com/news/beyond-the-hardwood-france-alex-sarr

No obvious generational player. Current no 1 prospect Sarr is similar to Dereck Lively who went 12th in this year's draft, although to be fair Lively will prob be a top 5 pick in a redraft.

Whoa! Never heard of this guy before.

He's clearly the #1 pick next year. Is it even debatable?

Stone gets credit for turning this franchise around... in the broader context of getting lucky that KPJ got himself arrested, Ime blocked the potential of signing Harden, his best draft pick so far has been at #16, and he first tried to rebuild through Wall, Oladipo, Wood and Cousins, and the rebuild is not complete, there are multiple steps left to become a contender.

FVV, Dillon Brooks and Jeff Green would have been great for the Spurs

Was he lucky tanking 3 straight years while you impatient idiot fans whined & complain? What about trading Harden away for draft capital (the smart move) when 85% of this board said he was incompetent and got fleeced? You mentioned KPJ, no different than Giddey in OKC, is Presti on the hotseat?

The main take away is you give Stone credit for KPJ, Nix & John Wall. But now we're successful and he's been lucky? Pick a side

I wonder if Pops seat is getting hot.
(Hint: No, not in a thousand years. He is Pop, after all).

    Still.
I mean, can't imagine someone like him condone such a loooongggg losing streak. Then again, he has seen it all and possibly couldn't be bothered by short term results.

It is getting extreme though, it is dangerous to let young players get used to losing.

They are not overly concerned with winning this season. If they wanted to maximize wins, they wouldn’t have had Jeremy Sochan play starting point guard for them. He isn’t remotely ready to be a point guard (possibly never will be). Also - the Spurs really didn’t sign players to help win right away.

They are spending this year trying to develop Wembanyama and Sochan and to get another high lottery pick and can pivot to signing players to win when they decide it’s time.

As for Wembanyama- he has been exactly what I personally expected. He is a real difference maker defensively. He shuts down the paint and can guard the perimeter. Offensively he is good but not efficient enough yet.

    1) Can't project what will be based on 20+ games.......

It is also lazy to say not as good as people thought, many people thought differently, the NBA is a hype machine.

They hype people up and nobody knew even what they thought about him prior to watching league propaganda in the first place.....

They do not have David Robinson or Tim Duncan around to teach Wemby.

    Sit tight!

He is not on the hot seat first of all he is the goat coach. Secondly he made to sure sign a 5 yr contract before he started tanking.

And finally, they are tanking. I am pretty sure Gms clear it with their owner if they are tanking. With a talent like Wemby you wanna surround him with talent before he matures, you wanna be OK and have WB and Harden when KD breaks out and you don't wanna be Cleveland with Lebron and a bunch of old guys around him.

That is why going for a secondary star player who is already near his prime should be important than surrounding Vic with bunch of very good players.....

But that is just my expectations.....a tandem would bring out the best of him.
