Sports salaries are wack. And continue to be more wack. But more than anything, it's an indication of what people value the most. Follow the money.

I don't blame him for taking that insane money. Great for him!

On the other hand, I hope he never pitches again, completely flames out at the plate and the Dodgers fail.

Someone is going to make the ridiculous money generated by sports, so it might as well be the athletes. $700 million is insane, but Ohtani is an amazing talent and the best draw in sports (when pitching). It kinda sucks to see him go to the Dodgers, but at least it’s not the Jays or Rangers!

And NFL QBs are the most underpaid players in any league. A great QB should be getting paid $150+ mil per year…haha. The NFL salary cap is wack.

Given his injury and his usage to date, I can't imagine them realizing a good ROI. I understand fans wanting a big star, but you can sign a lot of good players for that money, and baseball... needs a lot of players.

EDIT: And the only failure here is OP's forum selection. :D

It's the perfect spot for a "let's b**ch about the finances of pro sports" thread.

did not know that ohtani was from iwate

never been there but i am a little familiar with the tohoku region from my english teaching days. its sucks lol. like the poorest region of japan with shitty weather and generally nothing to do. aomori has that one festival with the floats tho so i guess that cool.

and nah its nowhere near hiroshima or nagasaki lol
its closer to the place that big tsunami hit that cause that nuclear plant to go down

They wouldn't get paid like that if they didn't generate value for their employers.

    Good for them.

How much do you think the Dodgers' ownership group brought home last year?

If it makes you feel better, with over half his games in California, with agent fees, he's only getting around half of it at best I think.

It's a big difference plying 162 games in a season to 17 games. Football players make a whole lot more per game.

The Oakland A's made a $40M profit but still decided they had to move to greener pastures.

    Whatddya think the Dodgers made?
