I think Graveman will be really good for us next year. I think he is a comfort guy and pitches better when he's settled in.
No player is even close to being worth that. 2nd Tommy John? He won't be pitching by the end of that contract. He is a good hitter, but I would take Alvarez as a batter over him. I know Marketing plays a part. At most, Dodgers win 1 WS with him.
Yes, if he doesn’t pitch he is not anywhere near that kind of money, but the Dodgers do not care. When was the last time they let money dictate a move?
He will make the Dodgers all the money back plus in extra ticket, concession, and memorabilia sales. Dodger stadium just became a vacation destination for half of Asia and every baseball fan in the rest of the world.
As an Astros fan that has been living in LA the past 10 years, I hope we can meet the dodgers again in the world series and beat them with our home grown team. To beat them with Ohtani just makes it Oh so sweeter.
Dodgers are a lot more money-smart than people give them credit for. Besides Ohtani, they only have 2 big long-term contracts and both of those guys are MVP contenders. Their payroll last year was virtually identical to the Astros: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/2023/
I enjoyed their early exit as I work 10 mins from dodger stadium, the traffic is horrendous. I would endure all the traffic in the world for dodgers to make it to the finals just to lose to the stros or anyone else for that matter all my LA friends might literally unfriend me if the Stros beat them again lol
Ohtani is someone that no one has ever seen before. If he lasts 10 years at a high level, he will become the greatest player to ever play the game. Special.
