If it's enough energy to move a 2-ton van, it's enough energy to cook these nuts.

    Thats both math and science

I don't know if that is enough direct energy for Rocky Mountain Oysters.

We replaced our 2013 Ford Escape with a 2023 VW ID4 Pro RWD today. The ID4 will be supplementing my wife's 2022 Ford Escape PHEV.

Even though the 2024 refresh is suppose to be a major boost with new infotainment, much more power, and more range. The ID4 really fit what I wanted as just a daily commuter that has Android Auto, good efficiency, and low prices (for an EV). I don't mind having CCS/J1772 since we won't road trip with this car and being able to share the same charger with the Escape is better than having to deal with a dongle at home.

There is a ton of available vehicles right now and dealerships are discounting them quite deeply. The MSRP of the PRO RWD is $46,101. I got $7100 off MSRP and a subvented 3.9% APR for 72 months. I will then also eventually receive $7500 rebate from federal government and $2500 from Texas government.

My final drive off price including TT&L is $41635 before the $10k government rebates. That's pretty solid IMO. The Tesla Model Y RWD was also in the running, but it will actually end up being about $3k more OTD or $10k more with interest since Tesla has worse interest rates than VW's subvented rates.

The ID4 is actually quite nice to drive. The acceleration is more than enough for me in everyday driving. All of the touch controls in the infotainment are not good, but I imagine I'd get used to them eventually. The turning radius of the ID4 RWD is absolutely ridiculous. I've never had a car that U-turns this well. The ID4's turning circle is smaller than the Honda Fit or Nissan Kicks!

just need some EV versions of the biggest mainstream SUVs, around long enough to be cheap as used but with decent mileage, the kind that still look like hunchback trucks.

Tesla open sources their 48V electrical bus solution. The upcoming competition would patent such an idea thus making it much more expensive to implement. By open sourcing and encouraging adoption, this ultimately drives costs down for everyone.

Ten Electric Car Models Are Eligible As Of January 1, 2024
If the purpose of the Inflation Reduction Act was to encourage people to buy an electric car, that welter of rules and regulations seems to be counterproductive, to say the least. Boil it all down and The Street says only ten EVs will qualify for the full $7500 benefit starting next year. Oddly, one is going out of production soon and several others are not yet in production but might be before the new year is through.

    Here’s the list:

    1. Chevrolet Bolt EV – $26,500
    2. Chevrolet Equinox EV – $48,995
    3. Ford F-150 Lightning – $49,995
    4. Tesla Model 3 Performance – $50,990
    5. Chevrolet Silverado – $51,895
    6. Tesla Model Y Performance – $52,490
    7. Chrysler Pacifica PHEV – $53,425
    8. Chevrolet Blazer EV – $60,215
    9. Cadillac LYRIQ – $58,590
    10. Tesla Model X – $79,990

NOVEMBER DAYS’ SUPPLY OF INVENTORY BY BRAND
Dodge has the highest inventory levels, while Toyota has the lowest.

While EV sales volumes continue to increase, inventory levels are increasing faster. New electric-vehicle supply at the end of November was at 114 days. EV inventory levels have been climbing throughout Q4 and by volume and days’ supply are at a high point for the year. EV inventory estimates from Cox Automotive do not include Tesla, Rivian or other companies that do not have a dealer body holding inventory.

    @realDonaldTrump

Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNT against “TRUMP” and “MAGA.” Included also are World Leaders, both good and bad, but none of which are as evil and “sick” as the THUGS we have inside our Country who, with their Open Borders, INFLATION, Afghanistan Surrender, Green New Scam, High Taxes, No Energy Independence, Woke Military, Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Iran, All Electric Car Lunacy, and so much more, are looking to destroy our once great USA. MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    Wanted a SUV.
Was browsing for deals and came across the iX deals. figured why not..
I wasn't particularly looking for electric.

I actually went to look at a Cayenne and had put a deposit down last weekend. Changed my mind after seeing some issues with the current generation.

    Didn't want a Q7. Already had the e-tron.

Macan/Q5 is a bit too small.

Didn't even want to consider anything American (too big and blah lookig) or Asian (boring)

Starting January 1, 2024, credit eligibility and amount will be determined at the time of sale using the IRS Energy Credits Online website. The dealer will complete and submit the time-of-sale report online, and it will be accepted or rejected in real time. The dealer is required to provide you with a copy of the time-of-sale report, and you will need it to claim the credit.

If the vehicle qualifies for a credit, you have two options:

    1. You can claim the credit on your tax return for the year in which it was placed in service using Form 8936.
    2. You can transfer the credit to the dealer so that they can apply the credit amount to your final purchase cost. This essentially allows you to receive the benefit of the credit at the time of sale. The dealer will be reimbursed by IRS. You must still fill out Form 8936 reporting your eligibility for the credit and your decision to transfer the credit to the dealer.

Note that if the vehicle qualifies but you do not qualify for the credit for any reason (e.g., your modified adjusted gross income exceeds certain thresholds), you must reimburse IRS for any difference in the credit for which you are eligible and the benefit you received from the dealer. Dealers are not required to verify the eligibility of the buyer at the time of sale. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all buyer requirements. The dealer is, however, required to provide the modified adjusted gross income requirements for your information.

Great. this will add to the confusion of buying a car...

Its pretty straight forward. If a buyer knows they are going to make too much, the buyer needs to decide if they want to take the credit for a lower monthly payment now and get stuck with that fat $7500 tax bill. Basically this allows flexibility, especially to those who do not want to pay interest on that $7500 over the course of a year...or the lifetime of the loan as most people will not put that credit to their principle of the loan.

This isn't hard to understand, especially for a high income earner.

Also, for the low income earners, they qualify for the full $7500 rebate at the point of sale. Currently a buyer only gets the full rebate if they had a tax obligation that was equal or exceeded the rebate credit.

Tesla has done a decent job at conveying this. Its the scummy dealerships that will take advantage of this
