Dillon Brooks on Mental Lapses: “Feel like it’s the same guys that are doing that”

I don't like Dillon saying this. That's a internal team conversation and he made a couple of mental lapses himself. Could have started by taking responsibility for his own lapses (i.e. showing leadership) and made a more general statement in front of the media. Udoka is great at calling things out in the right way, this was unnecessary.

I'm glad the team is taking these things seriously though.

 

I agree, but we will have to take the good with the bad with Dillon. I love the toughness he brings to the defense, but some of his toughness off the court is bravado and not very helpful in the long run. I think they want him to be a vet leader, but other than by example he doesn’t have the basic attributes to be a good leader. I don’t think he is one of those guys that can be self-critical.

 

Just for conversation. If we are switching everything and Alp is being hunted on the switches, wouldn’t that mean that with Alp and Jabari having similar defensive ratings (best on team with guys getting minutes) that their load is similar?

 

Why on earth Alp would defend Franz? Are you high?

There is a group of posters that only watch defense when there is a pnr on Sengun. It was the same last year, not realizing how bad the perimeter defense was. Or claiming kpj is a good defender because they only think about defense if you have a one on one situation.

 

Yeah, it was very clear by how the Warriors repeatedly hunted Sengun in crunch time.

I have a feeling we are going to see more of that as the season progresses and the onus is on Udoka and his staff to find a way to counter because I don't think Alpi will ever have the physical tools necessary to be that kind of defender.

 

It’s definitely Jalen and Jabari. Jalen Green seems to have a 0% BBIQ, can’t defend, can’t dribble and is so weak he’s a turnover waiting to happen. Unless he has an efficient shooting night he’s a total liability. If he can’t figure it out under Ime this year he’s a future 6th man. Jabari seems to have serious confidence issues and poor instincts plus he’s still pretty skinny but in his defense he’s so young. I feel like once Jabari is confident in Ime’s system he will improve.

 

They hunted him, yet Alp still has one of the best defensive ratings on the team.
Just because they looked for a center on the switch doesn’t mean he did badly.
