One my favorites. I graduated from High school in 85. I listened to a lot of: The Jam Early U2 REM Depeche Mode Icicle works. The Smiths New Order But also listened to Maiden Rush Triumph Priest Dream Theater Sonic Youth I liked all music except radio pop.
Also a favorite. Have you ever heard him sing Crazy with Diana Krall and Willie Nelson. Pretty good stuff.
Saw them play with the Psychedelic Furs a few weeks ago. I'm more of a 'Furs fan, but I have newfound appreciation for Squeeze. I love the elasticity of the vocals in Tempted.
Listening to the Replacements' Tim box set, it's like hearing the album for the first time. It just generally sounds warmer and somehow more expensively recorded than the original. That magic alone allows you to hear more going on in these songs. As far as the updated mix, I think biggest difference is the vocals (including the backing vocals) sounds much clearer and prominent. There were some moments I didn't even remember the original having backing vocals on certain parts. I had to re-listen to the original closely to tell they were there. In general, the new mix doesn't fiddle too much with song layouts. Probably the biggest change is Little Mascara got almost an extra minute in the closing section of the song, which allows it to fade out on a guitar solo instead of the climactic "Cry-eye-eye"...definitely and improvement.
Been enjoying the music videos that come out when they release them. The dance choreography is incredible and syncs so well with the music.
