I freaking love it. Great for Jalen and great for recruiting stars. I read a few times before we hired him that players like and respect him. By the time we're in training camp, Green will know EXACTLY what's expected of him and Ime will know exactly what to expect from Green. Really great signs from both of them.
I don't know if it's reluctance or simply a lack of vision/passing ability. when you are going full speed at the rim, it takes a lot of skill to still read the floor for an open man, there are only a few players that could do that effectively. When Green is going head first at the rim, he's already committed in his mind no matter what kind of defense is played on him at the rim. A lot of times even we can see that before the play happens he's going to get blocked/throw up a bad layups. He has a lot of tools in his bag, but a lot of times he doesn't know which tool to use in certain situations.
People are overthinking it. It's just because he is/was skinny. Contact disrupts his shot too much. So he has to put his head down, attack the basket full force and jump as high as possible. The good news is there's a clear distinction between him and guys who suck at finishing. He's elite at getting to the line for his age and size. Historically elite for his age and size. Once the 3pt shot and finishing are polished parts of his game, I'm sure the kick outs and middies will become more frequent and fruitful. I'm ecstatic that his approach was to not lose motivation getting to the line because that's a major indicator of a successful scorer. Lots of players would give up on that but he decided to take some punches and establish a good habit rather than taking the easy route. I think with added strength, experience and better coaching this part of his game will flourish then we'll be able to move on to kick outs. Give the guy time, he had 0 fundamentals entering the team, there were no stakes and player development was horrible on our team. He'll get there.
Rockets’ staff impressed by Jalen Green’s conditioning, fitness (usatoday.com) "Green arrived at Team USA camp stronger, fitter and most importantly, smarter. Word from Vegas was he picked up the system quickly, was extremely coachable and was an eager learner." "Now, it appears Houston’s own basketball operations staff is similarly impressed, and particularly by his high level of fitness during what is normally a quiet period on the NBA calendar." Quick and short read but more encouraging signs that Jalen may be headed to a break-out year. Especially like the statements regarding his smarts and the ability to pick up a system quickly. There has been a narrative by some in this forum that Jalen is lacking between the ears basketball wise and in general. Myth dispelled.
His issue isn't making decisions split second to go around a defender. We've seen many times where a help defender steps in last second and Green does some sort of counter eurostep or hop step at the last second. His issue is being overzealous thinking he's still in high school where he can just jump as high as he can and do something on multiple defenders in the air. It's mainly being overzealous and underestimating NBA help defenses. Edit: and as @Mathloom stated, the other large factor I forgot was strength. A lot of times he just got bumped ruining his plan A.
People will hate, but this is a safer person to be dating for him at 38 and much less fertile, the chances of ending up in a Zion situation is miniscule, the chances of losing several million dollars and dealing w drama is much less here dealing w someone who is more mature.
No you won't. You'll say it's just one screen. You'll only be impressed when he's already an MVP calibre player, in which case you won't be predicting anything you'll just be forced to acknowledge.
Really glad to hear! Jalen has all thentools, my only grip has been he does not show consistent effort on the defensive side of the ball but I think Ime will help with that.
The cognitive dissonance of the Green groupies, where they claim he has high value because he can create his own shots, while at the same time whining that there is nobody to create shots for him...
Lol it is one photo and folks go on, he could have 2-4 side chicks we do not know about and another couple of dry hump bros. Zion is a pretty dumb young breh who wanted to get married at 22-23 with a stripper and then have an affair with a pornstar, that said it all. He probably spent tens of millions on them. He looks like 30 and is built like a fat tank. Zion could just have waited till he is really 30.
Maybe because basketball isn't about one player being able to create for himself all the time? Ffs, at least put some effort into it.
Did you get time to inspect Green's testicle juice to measure his T levels to see what his max potential could be?
You only have 2 seasons which were mixed bags, that is not saying a lot. Career high, how many mileage does this career have till now. MIP season, we all have prophesied. Either Jabari or him or both.
I don’t ask much of Jalen Green. I know every year he can improve from here on out. For now I just want Jalen Green to find a way to not get his layups blocked at least by 50%. Otherwise he will be predictable for ever.
